"Now the real power would be turning boring old vanilla into chocolate."
Lars laughed warmly and the faint sense of oppressive humidity that everyone had probably taken for the weather lifted almost perceptibly. "That would be a mighty power indeed. Even better if you could turn boring old vanilla into any flavour that you wanted at all. Rum and raisin is a good one."
He accepted a bowl of ice cream with pleasure and ate it happily. This whole 'domestic' thing had been missing from his life and he'd not realised just how much he'd missed it. When he'd still lived at home, he'd always loved the fact that his family were the 'sit around the table for dinner' kind. He'd visited with his brother once and the entire family ate dinner off their laps in front of the TV. Lars had hated it.
He glanced across at Marie who was giving him what could only be described as a suspicious look. He had a feeling he knew why, too.
"What do you know about the long term effects of the Worthing Cure?" he asked, as airily as possible.

"We have raisins," Lee said with a smile and a wink, "but no rum. Unless you're buying."
"What do you know about the long term effects of the Worthing Cure?" he asked, as airily as possible.
"That it's permanant," Marie replied as casually as she could. "That anyone who was actually injected should not be able to use even a shadow of their former powers." That if I grabbed you by the neck right now the most I would be able to do was cut off your oxygen and not suck your life away, she thought to herself. Then again, she couldn't be sure that he had used any sort of power on her - it had just been lightheadedness. She'd not been near such a handsome man in quite some time, and it could possibly be that her long-buried emotions had decided to come out and talk a walk around her head for a moment - especially when those blue eyes landed on her green ones.
She waved off the thought as she spoke again. "I think if the cure wasn't permanant we would have known it by now, given the number of restored humans living here. It would be quite dangerous if they all suddenly got their powers back without warning."
"Yeah, I'd probably blow something up again," Lee smirked, "but we'd have some damn good ice cream doing it."

"I read...somewhere...that Worthington Labs never really had time to resesarch the long-term effects, that they were backed into a corner where they needed to release the Cure before all studies had been complete. This was after I let myself get the injection, of course." Lars smiled at her and dug into his ice cream.
It only took a few more spoonfuls to empty the bowl and he set the dish aside with a satisfied sigh. "I really enjoyed that," he said. "And before I leave you in peace for the night, I'd be grateful if you let me thank you by doing the washing up. Seems like the least I can do for such a decent meal."
How easily he changed the subject.

"Do you really think the FDA would have approved the cure if they hadn't studied the long-term effects of it?" Marie shook her head in doubt, "its all rumors and urban legend that suddenly everyone's powers are going to come back. Mine haven't yet," she reached out and brushed his hand with her own, producing no life-sucking effect, "neither have Lees. Nor anyone else here."
As he changed the subject though, she let it go. Maybe she'd talk Lee into asking him later if he'd actually been cured. Lee had little to no tact sometimes and wouldn't find anything wrong with asking outright "do you still have your powers?" whereas Marie found it a bit rude. Not that grilling him in general wasn't a bit rude.
"Oh, you can certainly help with the dishes," Lee put in cheerily, happy to have some help with her turn washing them.
(Start the next day? Should I bring Lee to his office?)

[[haha well it's fine with me, not that you need my approval... I don't think Xavier had anything to add anyway.
Bad me for being away so long. XD]]
