Thanks for the info and especially the links to Hatley. It's layout is different from the X-Mansion, which I think is why they didn't show a full view in the films. We'll still go with the two wings design.
I've got the 3rd floor figured out (library, computer room), and most of the first floor--I even fit the offices AND the classrooms down there! Now the issues I need help with are:
1. Staff rooms - Either the classrooms have bedrooms behind them for staff, or the staff has seperate rooms which have to be either on the fourth floor or underground. So everyone, especially staffers, give me your opinions. Pick one of the the three.
That's the only one right this minute. I'll go ahead and put the staff rooms on the fourth floor but I can change it if someone really doesn't like it or has a better idea. If we put the staff rooms somewhere else, we've got the whole fourth floor to fill in with unimportant stuff. So might as well put them there, in my humble opinion.
But what do I know? I'm just the lowly mapmaker ;D

Storm's bedroom is on the fourth/top floor, I know that for sure, she has to be near the sky ; ). So if all of the staffers have their bedrooms up there, that would be fine... it would be weird to have them have bedrooms near their offices/classrooms.
Yay!

I'M DONE!!! Well, okay, not quite. A few things need done: 1. THERE'S ACTUALLY OPEN SPACE!!! TONS! Areas with orange scribbles (or revalations about life ) need to be filled. The wings of the third floor attic don't need filled, because they are mostly for storage. 2. There's no fourth floor to show because there's not even rooms to fill the first three, so why have a fourth? If we need it, I can make a map for it as well. For some reason this one doesn't want to be the right size. So...In the left wing are a solar garden, and Ororo's love den room. And in the main part in the middle it says, "MAIN RECREATION AREA (TVs, video games, board games, air hockey table, pool table, movies, couches, futons, etc)". And on the right wing are a couple spare rooms, because Liam is staying in the attic. The attic is mainly for storage.

Like I mentioned before--now it's ready--all students please reply here and pick a room from the layout of the second floor posted above. I will add you to the roster.
I'll start off.
ROOM ASSIGNMENTS[/size]
Boys 31 - Bobby Drake 32 - Sid Fraser 34 - Warren Worthington III 35 - Peter Rasputin 37 - Liam (in attic)
Girls 24 - Cal Grandchamps 26 - Kitty Pryde & Hannah __ - Sam Meyers __ - Rayen Tandaka
Also, faculty! Please let me know which office you want! I'll make a list of that too. Storm, let me know if you want to keep your old office (in which case you can pick first lol) or use the Professor's.

I've already said that Kurt has an office with a window, so I suppose that gives me the one on the end.

Wow that's some good mapmaking there, Ice-Man. I think Storm will have taken the Professor's old study. Perhaps she has a painting of him on the wall or something. But the headmaster should have that room, methinks. However, isn't the Professor's office at the end of a hallway? As seen in uh... X2, with the little girl? Anyway, I (Cal/Animaux) will take room 24. Technically I'm only 13, but I age faster than y'all, so... ; )

A random, non-layout related thought that this thread sparked off for me. I wonder if Xavier set up some sort of fund to enable students over the age of, say, twenty one to find themselves apartments or whatever? Obviously they can't stay at the mansion forever, not all of them, otherwise there'd never be space for a new intake.

Not a bad idea, Pyro.
Not that you'd get any cut of that anymore.

Can there be a really big window on the top floor (rec room maybe?) - there was a picture of a really cool wall-to-wall slanted window area in the AoA comics and I really liked it Sid - 32 thankee

(Bumping partly because this is a madly useful thread that I use, like, every day.)
I think we should have a meeting room in the basement near the labs/Danger Room, as Rogue mentioned earlier, for war planning - with all the fancy technology they need, and room for everyone to sit or gather around. The Strategy Room? Planning Room? Project Room? Thoughts?

Oooh, oooh, I was in Borders today and took a couple of photos of the layout of the mansion and the underground parts from an X-Men essential guide book thingy.
I'll upload the pics, cause I think they could be handy.
... As for the underground meeting room, they have the War room don't they? Where they have that spiffy model recreating thingy used to plan the Liberty Island incident.

Oh, is it actually called the War Room? In that case the work is done for us. ; )
Yeah, I was remembering that device from Liberty Island but I couldn't remember where it was, and I certainly never knew if the place had a name.

Having looked at the pics I took today, it is called the War Room and there's quite a bit of technology in there to help with planning out strategies and stuff. The pics are still uploading (they're huge, and I'm putting them up directly to my own server - but I'll be taking them down again after a couple of days) but as soon as they're done I'll link you
