Blink.
He fixed a blank expression on Cal. "Eh... good?" He wanted Alani to like him. He wanted everyone to like him. He had already been fairly sure that Alani liked him, though; after all, she had offered to show him how to swim.
Her next words confused him, though. What did his wings have to do with it? And his accent? He knew he sounded a bit different from the other students, but he didn't see how that would change anything. He blinked in surprise as she declared his accent cute - REALLY cute - and shuffled from foot to foot, edging up the stairs.
Pulling the swim trunks away as they clung to his body - he'd been told time and time again that society didn't look favorably upon anything too revealing - he looked at her through drips of water. "Scotland."

Clueless. Totally clueless. Cal giggled. It was nice to see someone more socially inept than she was.
"Scotland? Awesome." She flipped over so that her head was hanging upside-down from the chaise lounge, and spread her legs in the air. She would have realized it was sexual if she had stopped to think about it, but Cal was very bad at stopping to think.
"Don't they have girls in Scotland?" He was definitely past puberty. How clueless could he be? Red skin or no.

Liam's head cocked to one side. He'd certainly liked Scotland, but it was most of what he knew.
His brow furrowed as she flipped over, her legs stretched into the air. He had little experience with humans, and as such he knew next to nothing about subtle physical interaction.
Unfortunately for him, there was nothing subtle about what Cal was doing, and his body was more than willing to pick up on that.
Swallowing loudly, Liam stuttered for a moment before finding his voice. "Grew up alone."

Cal scratched the inside of her bare thigh absentmindedly, and wiggled her feet at the ends of her tan legs. Weird kid.
Then again, he was saying something she could relate to. "Ah yeah, me too prettymuch. Well, halfway. The important half." She stopped short, knowing she wasn't making any sense, but she didn't feel like elaborating.
Cal looked at the other mutant for a moment, and decided not to ask Liam any more questions about his past. She wasn't going to go blabbing everything that had happened to her; so she wouldn't ask him to.
She stared at him upside down for a moment. Her face started to turn pink from gravity.
After a moment of silence, her gaze shifted to his swim trunks. "Aren't you cold?" No... he didn't look cold. One of her eyes squinched up and she hastily folded her legs back down.

Liam had gotten lost somewhere. Was she referring to living alone? His eyes were focused on her feet as they moved, and everything else was getting lost.
He flushed as she looked down at his shorts, and she lowered her legs, much to his relief. Folding his wings around his shoulders to block off the view of his body, he readjusted his trunks as they clung to him. "A little cold," he said sheepishly, even though his face was feeling extremely warm.

Cal rolled over, feeling strangely generous. Maybe it was the 'grew up alone' thing that was getting to her. She got up, adjusted her bathing suit around her rear, and puttered around the lounge area until she found a dry folded towel. She picked it up and tossed it at Liam.
"There ya go."
There was a pause.
"Nice job with the swimming. I think."
Hmm. "I'm'a head inside, I have to go to the bathroom. See you later."
Cal turned towards the house. Just before she left earshot, she tossed an offhand final comment over her shoulder. "We'll have to fly sometime."

Liam squinted as the towel folded around his head, and his wings unfurled as his hands scrabbled at the cloth. Pulling it off (thankfully without tearing it) he watched her curiously as she spoke, paused, spoke, paused... It was like a pattern. She couldn't say anything without short spaces between.
Half-waving in confusion as she left, his long fingers curling slightly, he managed to mutter, "Would be nice," as she disappeared.
These people were strange.
