Kurt let his thoughts wander, looking over the city. This was the first time he'd been able to be up here without worrying about getting blown off. There wasn't a safe side of the building; the wind whipped around everywhere up so high. He tried to focus on the lights of the city and push Ororo from his mind again.
It nearly worked.
Sighing inwardly, he turned back to look at Maddie and caught a bright, almost wicked smile on her face. He looked at her with an amused expression. "Enjoying the view, Madelyne?"
Walking to the edge, he sat down and let his feet dangle over. They stuck out of the telekinetic box; it was a strange feeling having the wind pull at the bottoms of his pants and nothing else. "No, it is not dangerous for me, and I could save anyone else who was falling, but I do not believe it would be an entirely favorable experience for them." He didn't feel the need to say that he was actually fond of leaping from high surfaces and teleporting away; if she really wanted to, he was sure she could pull it from his mind anyway.
"I have been told that the fall is quite terrifying for other people, and I have had my fair share of rescues that way."

"I am, Kurt. Very much so." Her eyes swept back to him to make it clear that he was part of the view that she was enjoying.
She didn't join him on the ledge, electing to stay standing and enjoy that she was taller than him from this position. It wasn't a feeling that she got very often.
"Oooh." She had been listening to his thoughts, and she couldn't help but imagine what it would feel like, to run and jump and teleport away before hitting the ground - or anything else, for that matter. Maddie could probably try something similar with her telekinesis, stopping herself before she hit the ground, but it wasn't the kind of thing that she was willing to experiment with, just in case something went wrong. She wasn't bulletproof - if she didn't know they were coming, anyway. What happened if she passed out or something?
"Yeah, I imagine that someone not used to it wouldn't have much fun." Bundling the bottom of his coat up in one hand, Maddie dropped down to sit next to him, smiling at the feeling of the wind around her legs. She didn't extend the shields - it wasn't unpleasant, just unusual, and she'd certainly never given up on something before just because it had an unusual sensation.
"Do you do a lot of rescuing then, Kurt? It often seems as though the X-Men are doing more fighting - from what you see on the television, anyway." It didn't seem like the kind of life he'd have wanted, but fighting seemed to be a part of the superhero lifestyle.

Kurt felt the heat rising in his face as she looked at him, and he cast his eyes to the side modestly. That was the second person today to look at him with something other than the normal fear or passive interest. It was such an unfamiliar feeling, and his tail swished behind him in confusion, moving sinuously.
He looked down at the street so far below them. He couldn't see the people, could barely make out the cars as they drove by. He took a deep breath and shut his eyes, letting his shoulders relax as he imagined all his troubles falling to the street below.
He heard her breathy exclamation and turned his head to look at her. She must have been "listening in" if she reacted that way. He let a small smirk slip onto his face. And just how much have you been gleaning from my mind this time? he thought as clearly as he could. And is it really fair to listen to my thoughts without sharing your own? I am German, and I can tell when someone isn't saying what they are thinking. We are masters of it.
He watched her sit down next to him. "It can be even more jarring than the teleportation itself, I am told. Not entirely enjoyable."
Leaning back on his hands, Kurt looked up at the sky, only a few stars visible with all the light streaming from below. "I do not enjoy fighting; I try to only defend myself and others that need it." He sighed, "Sadly, much of what we do requires conflict, something with which I have had to reconcile myself."

"Kurt, I do believe if I told you what I was thinking all the time you'd blush bright purple." She gave him a smirk of her own. "But I can, if you wish... although I think it would be more fun to show than tell."
So much for being on her best behaviour.
"It's a shame, but that seems to be the way life is for people in your position." She didn't say our position because Maddie made a point of staying away from the mutant rights conflict. It wasn't so easy for people with a physical manifestation of their X-Gene, though. No doubt he would have been involved in the conflict whether he wanted it or not, dragged in by the humans that were too afraid to look beyond the exterior.

Kurt was responding mentally before he gave it any thought; her demure attitude and the peaceful atmosphere so far above the street had thrown him off. What do you m... Then comprehension kicked in and his eyes widened in surprise.
Oh.
His imagination was already dredging up images of just what she was suggesting as he furiously tried to keep it under control. He bit down on his lower lip, looking down at the street again, trying to focus on anything else. His tail curled and uncurled behind him in a mix of excitement and agitation, and he forced himself to breath slowly.
You were thinking it earlier. Don't be so surprised, part of his mind chided. Kurt decided to mentally gag that part later.
He was partly relieved when she spoke again, even if he didn't look at her with his wide eyes. His mind was still reeling, so the full effect of her wording slipped past him. "Ja, it seems to be part of the whole package. I did want to be a swashbuckler, though."
Focus! Kurt, deiner Fokus!

She was smiling so hard that her cheeks hurt at Kurt's vivid imagination, both pleased and amused that she'd finally gotten a rise out of him. Metaphorically speaking. She didn't speak into his mind again, preferring to leave him to his own devices as he tried to focus himself.
He was focused plenty, from what she could tell. Though perhaps his 'religious fervour' was telling him that it was a bad thing to be focusing on.
"A swashbuckler? That certainly sounds like... fun. Like one of the Three Musketeers, no doubt, though I think a pirate or someone like Zorro would be much more interesting."
One red manicured nail rose up to his face, to trace over the pattern along his cheek.
Behave, Madelyne.
It was difficult to keep in mind when he was having such interesting thought and waving his tail about so.
"Zorro always ended up with the beautiful woman, after all."
Before she could give herself another reminder to behave, she was moving to straddle him, her knees either side of him to hold him close and her lips hovering only inches from his. Fingers skittered over his scars and she bit her bottom lip gently, breathing in the scent of him, green eyes gazing into golden.
"Perhaps we should... move on from here." Though she was extraordinarily comfortable right where she was.

Kurt took another deep breath, looking straight out at the rooftops around them. His mind was slowly coming back under his control as he thought about the movies he had so enjoyed as a kid. "More like Errol Flynn, actua..." She was tracing one of the swirling scars on his cheek. Why was she...
"Zorro always ended up with the beautiful woman, after all."
Well, that could be problematic.
He felt her shift beside him, saw the flash of red hair and white cloth; he inhaled sharply as her leg crossed over his body and his mind went blank. He looked at her with wide eyes, her breath warm against his face, her fingers sending shivers through his skin; he could smell her, feel her, and as his toes curled he could feel his body reacting to her - she was so very close.
He needed to regain control. I am in control!
His body was disagreeing.
"Ja," he managed to stutter, "perhaps moving on is best."
Gott in Himmel, I am going to be doing a lot of praying tonight.

"Are you one of those people that likes to cry out 'Oh God! Oh God!'?" Maddie purred softly, her fingers still tracing over the patterns on his skin. That exotically beautiful dark blue skin, covered with short fur that felt like silken strands beneath her fingertips.
She didn't need any telepathic ability to be aware of the effect that she was having on him. His desperate attempts to control himself only added to her ardour.
There were very few men that she knew who would not have taken advantage of this situation. Madelyne found herself wondering what it was about Kurt that made him one of them. Was it the same religious fervour that had gained him his scars? Following them along, one hand left his cheek to trace along the edge of his ear, following the shape of it without making any attempt to hide her curiosity. What kind of mutation led to such an exotically beautiful appearance? What did teleportation have to do with blue skin, or fur, or a tail? Oh, god, the tail.
She shifted, pushing herself even closer to him, and felt the back of his coat fall over the edge and be caught in the wind. It was amazing that she'd managed to keep the telekinetic shields up, actually, distracted as she was...
All thought of behaving was long forgotten, now. Her mind was filled with him, just as her senses were, and as she felt the heat of him against her, felt his unconscious response, she didn't even bother to try to hold herself back.
Fingers twined into his hair to pull him close, and she looked at him for just a split second with what could only be described as hunger before she closed the gap between soft red lips and blue.

Kurt's mouth moved soundlessly, and he blinked in surprise at her words. The smooth purr of her voice cut through the wailing of the wind around the barrier, heat rising under his collar, and he swallowed nervously as her fingers slid over his scars. Mein Gott...
He tried to focus on something else. Somewhere in the back of his mind he knew there were a million things to look at from such a height, but his wide eyes remained focused on her green ones, and he shuddered as her finger traced over the point of his ear. "M... Madelyne..." he said breathelessly, unsure exactly what he was trying to say. Was he trying to stop her? Did he want her to go on?
He'd nearly reasoned it out when she shifted against him, and he inhaled brokenly, his tail snaking behind him. She was pressed closely against him, and he knew she could tell what she was doing to him. Is that so bad? some part of his mind said, the only part that could form coherent thought at the moment.
His body didn't disagree as he felt her fingers loop through his hair, and he gasped in surprise as her lips closed on his. He could taste her; it was intoxicating. Leaning into the kiss, he responded instinctively, if not a bit rustily; he hadn't kissed anyone with any sort of fervor in years.
He shivered slightly as a breeze whipped past them; apparently Maddie was too distracted, and it whistled past Kurt's ears. Suddenly he could hear the wind again, and the weather around them cut through his brain like a knife.
Ororo.
With a quiet growl Kurt pulled back, shutting his eyes tightly, consciousness flooding back. It was wrong and he knew it. It wasn't anything but pure lust.
And it wasn't like lust was one of those deadly sins or anything.

Oh, god damn it.
Was it so wrong for two adults who were so obviously physically attracted to each other to act upon that? Apparently so. As soon as her name had entered Kurt's mind, Maddie had taken control of her telekinetic shields again, but it was too late.
His quiet growl would have only encouraged her if she wasn't telepathic. As it was, she felt like responding with a growl of her own at the idea of him thinking of any other woman while he had her there in his arms - so to speak - particularly a woman who, from all she'd overheard in his thoughts that evening, wasn't with him and wasn't interested.
She didn't take it as badly as she might have, though. After all, she was still on his lap, still up there on the side of the Empire State Building, and he had kissed her back. He hadn't pushed her away, hadn't teleported them out of there, and moral misgivings or no... There was no denying the effect she'd had on him.
She wasn't quite so gentle this time as she pulled him back toward her, her telepathic words almost a hiss.
"My name is Madelyne."
"Does she mean so much to you, Kurt? When your only thoughts of her are melancholy?" Her actual voice was a low purr, seductive in its sweetness and understanding.
"Do you really wish to hold yourself back for the moral sensibilities of a woman who does not even care for you? You're beautiful, Kurt. She's a fool to let you slip through her fingers."

Kurt's eyes shot open in surprise as his head was twisted back towards her, her hands still twisted in his hair, and he shivered with unbidden excitement. She seemed determined to make this as difficult for him as possible, it seemed, and he could feel every breath she took press against his chest. And try as he might, he couldn't deny that it was affecting him.
He winced slightly as her telepathic message sizzled through his mind, her agitation clear. Her tone as she spoke was completely different, though, calm and enticing, and he felt himself lean closer to her as the words left her mouth.
He wasn't sure what to say. Ororo had obviously made her choice, and she seemed just as obviously obvlivious to the way Kurt felt. She might have even consciously chosen to ignore it; her tastes seemed to run towards the more aesthetic.
And did that even matter? Was it right for him to do anything with Maddie with Ororo constantly flitting across his mind, with the way he felt? Was it right for him to do anything with Maddie at all? His head swam with questions that it was nowhere near clear enough to answer, and the feel of Maddie's breath and her smell and the way she leaned against him... he couldn't think. It was too much to think.
She said I was beautiful.
He focused as well as he could, speaking softly even as his face moved closer to Maddie's red lips. "She is my closest friend, and I cannot help thinking about her, no matter what she has done to me."

God damn it.
Was that a twinge of guilt that she was feeling, at her intentions for this beautiful, sweet, kind man who was obviously wrestling with his morals over what he should be doing with her? Surely not. Madelyne Pryor didn't feel guilt, not over acting upon her desires nor over her desires themselves. She pushed the feeling down, reminded herself that he was beautiful and sweet and kind, and that he out of everyone did not deserve to be feeling melancholy over a woman who could not see that.
This time, her telepathic voice matched her physical, her tone low and even and sweet.
"You are beautiful."
If he had been any other kind of man, she could have done it. Could have ignored all his questions and just enjoyed him the way that she wanted to. If she knew that he could think of it like she did, as simply a tumble, she could have easily continued with what she was doing - and she felt an almost certain confidence that it would lead to exactly what she wanted, if she kept going as she was.
But she couldn't do it. There was that god-damned twinge of guilt, but more importantly than that... She couldn't bed him while he was thinking of another woman. Wouldn't bed him while he was thinking of another woman - she refused to be second best. Madelyne wanted to be the only woman in the world to this one.
So she was wearing a look of supreme reluctance when she brushed her lips over his for the softest of soft kisses and untangled her fingers from his indigo locks. Her gaze dropped, though she didn't move from where she was pressed up against him, as though he had one chance to change her mind, if that was what he wanted.
"I think we should go."

Kurt felt gratitude swell within him as Maddie projected the thought into his mind, and he could tell that even if he couldn't believe it himself, she did. She was beautiful, and she thought he was beautiful.
He could have cried.
Instead, he brought one hand up and softly touched her hair, letting out a sigh of released regret as her lips grazed his; his eyes closed and he took a deep breath, letting his forehead press against hers, his body relaxing even with hers pressed so tightly against him. He had no idea how far it would have gone; his emotions had been so jumbled a moment ago and his body hadn't been listening to his mind, but now he was thinking clearly. "Danke schön, Madelyne."
He slowly pulled away and rose to his feet, looking down at her warmly and holding his hand out to help her up. "Let us get you back to your hotel."
It was time to go home.

God damn it. And god damn her for letting emotions get in the way of what had been shaping up to be a perfectly good night. Somehow, she felt that this regret was not so bad as what she'd have felt had she let things continue the way that they were - but that wasn't like her either, and she inwardly kicked herself. What the hell was wrong with her? Apparently her return to New York had turned her soft.
Madelyne hesitated for just a moment before she took his hand and stood, letting her shields fall and the wind whip her hair all around before she took a hold of him and let him take her back to her apartment in a series of bamfs.
"You have my number. Don't forget to get me the details for your DNA testing facility." She gave him back his coat reluctantly, wondering if she was going to see him again after this. As much as she hoped so, Maddie doubted that it would be any time soon, or that he'd have changed his mind if she did. It was such a shame to see him so unwilling to look beyond a woman who didn't even know what she was missing out on - because if she did, how could she have passed him up? How could she have not cared?
Maddie had passed him up, true, but maybe that was because she did care - or maybe it was because she knew that it would be all the sweeter when he was coming to her rather than the other way around.
One day.

As soon as the shield dropped, Kurt wrapped his arms around her firmly and focused, and three jumps and a few seconds later they were on the ground in front of her hotel. He took the coat from her hands, slipping it on - it looked less awkward on him anyway - and gave her a small smile.
"I will be in touch with you with that information, and... I hope to see you again soon. I rather enjoyed tonight." He thought for a moment and gave her a half-smirk. "All of it."
Taking her hand, he leaned forward and kissed it lightly, bamfing away without moving from that position.

Though she smiled at both his words and the kiss of her hand, it faded as Maddie climbed the stairs to her (sadly) empty hotel room and opened the lock with a thought. She wandered inside with a dark look - she was frustrated, didn't want to be alone, but didn't want a man. Not unless she could find one with exotic colouring and a tail, but it was a bit late in the evening to be starting that quest.
Searching for her cell phone, she spotted it and brought it to her with a thought, flipping it open to see a series of missed calls from just the number that she was wanting to see. As she hit a series of buttons and listened to the ringing, her smile returned - a seductive smirk that was as easy to slip into as a skirt.
"Samantha? Yes, it's Madelyne. I want you to come over. Now."
