"Got any more ideas?"
"No."
The answer was very plain, very simple and it was amazing how a single syllable word could be spoken with such venom. "I'm trying to think how we can do anything and I keep drawing a big, fat blank." He hefted one of the books in his hand absently.
"I need to get back to the base," he said. "It wouldn't surprise me if someone hasn't already moved into the office in my absence anyway." He put the book on the shelf in the right place, then stood back and admired his work.
Then he sat down.
"Now you come to mention it," he said, vaguely, "I AM a little tired still."

"No."
Promising.
"I'm trying to think how we can do anything and I keep drawing a big, fat blank."
"Well, that sucks," Jane said. And here she'd assumed there would be something to actually do... though at least they wouldn't be afraid to do something. When they figured out what it was. "But you did just organize a bank heist. Maybe you can give it a week before any other nefarious schemes."
Even if the heist had been a total failure, still! He shouldn't be plotting on that shoulder anyway.
"I need to get back to the base. It wouldn't surprise me if someone hasn't already moved into the office in my absence anyway."
"It's been, like, two days," Jane said, attempting to be reassuring. "I'm sure they're still eagerly anticipating your triumphant return. Don't you feed them?"
"Now you come to mention it, I AM a little tired still."
"Take a nap before dinner," Jane said wisely, removing The Three Musketeers from the shelf for later perusal, leaving a hole in the little staircase. "You're probably still stoned."

"Take a nap before dinner. You're probably still stoned."
She was removing The Three Musketeers! All the hard work of sorting the books out so that they were more aesthetically pleasing on the eye destroyed in an instant!
One fist clenched and unclenched, then he shook himself visibly. "Perhaps you're right." He got to his feet again and walked up to her, ever so gently took the book from her hand and firmly inserted it back in the bookcase. "Order," he said, in a dreamy sort of voice. "Order. The opposite of chaos."
Then he wandered back out of the room and headed the wrong way down the corridor.

Jane opened The Three Musketeers to the chapter index, noticing out of the corner of her eye that apparently John had a hand tic.
"Perhaps you're right."
"'Course I'm..."
Ever so gently, John pulled the book from her hands, closed it, and slid it back onto the shelf.
"...right."
"Order. Order. The opposite of chaos."
He was still so, so stoned.
Hopefully.
"John," Jane called down the corridor when she noticed John going the wrong way, "your room is the other way."
She waited until he'd gotten himself straightened out and furtively picked up the book again, making back off with it to a family parlor to wait for diinner.
