My Petya,
I have arrived in Dallas and have gone home with my father. He seems more relieved than angry, though he still insists on referring to you negatively. I don’t know if he’ll ever understand, but I am doing my best to prove to him with my behavior that this time things are different for me. That this time I am in love, and all I wish is to return to you in Tomsk. I suppose you can imagine how difficult it would be to let go of a young woman you love for someone you’ve never met. Imagine if Illyana met a man in another country and wished to move there, perhaps to never see you again. It would be very hard. So I must be sympathetic, and patient.
I have enrolled in school here again, and Father has said I will just have to learn how to get along with people who are prejudiced against mutants. I suppose he is right. I wish he could understand that getting along with my fellow students is the last thing on my mind. Mostly, I think about you.
I hope that your mother is well and that the three of you are learning to get along without your Father. Were you able to catch up on the harvest as you’d hoped? I am certain you will all do well through the Winter. With luck, I will be with you all for Christmas. I have longed for many years to be back home when it snowed.
I hope that you are happy, and that you are well. I haven’t spoken to anyone at the school since returning. My Father is considering a lawsuit but I believe I will change his mind. He was worried and scared, that is all. One day he will understand.
Write soon.
All My Love,
Sibylinka
