Name: Dominic Szilard Janos Petros
Codename: Avalanche
Affiliation: Brotherhood
Age: 22
Height: 6'0
Weight: 211 lbs.
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Brown.
Appearance:
Dominic is a fairly good looking young Greek man. He's olive skinned, with fashionably unkempt medium length hair. He often keeps his beard just unshaven enough to be ruggedly handsome, and generally has little worry or want for attention from girls. Particularly in the seedy groups he usually spends his time in.
He dresses well for the street punk he is, wearing jeans, shit-kickin' boots, black T-shirts and a leather jacket. He doesn't shy away from unique looking jewelry but never wears enough to be gaudy. In a way, it's as if he tries to stylize himself in an environment that generally wouldn't appreciate it.
Personality:
Dom's not the brightest kid on the block, but he ain't the slowest, either. He's got a good sense for living in the shadier parts of society, organizing people to do less than admirable things, and getting what he wants when he wants it. To others he often comes off as slightly abrasive, and a little arrogant. He doesn't possess the 'finer sensibilities' – despite how he was raised, and generally feels that his gruffness is endearing, even if it sometimes isn't.
This doesn't mean that he's a raging asshole, he does respect gang-command. He wouldn't walk into another gang leaders turf talking shit to the leader, he'd show due respect – but he'd not change his language either. Not for anybody.
Dominic was a gang boss, and he's from the streets.
Powers:
The Earth itself is Avalanche's domain. His power derives from his hands, which can emit immensely powerful vibrations. The vibrations are invisible, and make no sound, though usually their affect is clear enough. Through training, he's managed to create a couple of different affects with his control of these bizarre vibrations. Below are the primary power stunts associated with the power. Note: None of his powers work on living tissue, sorry ladies. (though they do work on vegetable matter):
Destroy Matter: He can focus his beams to crumble non-organic matter to dust. Generally speaking, he can emit waves that hit up to a 50 foot area of affect (currently) at a time. The problem is, the more intense the affect, the lighter material it won't affect. For example, he has a signature attack he calls the 'Nudifier' – that destroys cloth and leather in the area... but isn't potent enough to destroy metal or rock. Though if he wanted to destroy metal or rock, it'd take a bit longer in time, but would pretty much leave cloth/paper/etc in tact. He can destroy the lighter things faster than the denser things, though dusting solid rock can still be done at about a foot per second (of thickness). He cannot destroy adamantium... because, you know, it's magical.
Liquify Matter: Like the aforementioned power, but can also turn stone and metal to liquid. Notably, the matter isn't superheated – it's just a quick-sand type consistency, very liquid in nature.
Avalanche: Though Dominic can't exactly make matter sail through the air, as with telekinesis – or Magneto's power – what he can do is manipulate it if it's touching the earth. This is a very raw, though very powerful version of those powers. He usually creates a great moving avalanche – literally launching walls of earth (or whatever he's standing on) at people in great waves. He can also cause various shapes to burst forth from the ground, in raw form – such as creating a dome of earth, or a jutting column of it. He can create a wave of earth to carry him along at great speeds.
Earthquake: In his most frightening display of power, Avalanche can shake the very earth. He uses his vibrations to rattle the earth re-creating earthquakes of up to a 9.5 on the Richter Scale. These are limited in area (of up to about a good sized building), and can easily bring down smaller buildings (or even huge ones, if he has enough time to sit there shaking them). What's worse is that he can launch these waves down to the very tectonic plates of the Earth, creating larger scale earthquakes if on a fault line. Needless to say, California and Japan better leave him the *#$& alone.
Additional skills: Being a street-rat, he's got various skills associated with theft. He's also a very proficient Greco-Roman wrestler. Not good enough to beat, say, Mystique – but definitely the equivalent of a black belt fighter.
Weaknesses
Dom's brain generally uses convenient logic to smooth over the discrepancy in any plan or idea that he has. He's bullheaded to the point that he doesn't think much farther than one step away from his idea. Now, in battle, this may be different, but when it comes to idealism – he's not exactly deep.
“Your Kung Fu is weak!” - Dom will hardly EVER refuse a challenge – to himself, or to whoever he deems his family at any given time. You say his boys can't beat you in a foot-race? He'll find a way to prove you wrong – or maybe he'll just suplex you into a fire-hydrant. Either way, his code of honor and pride often has led him into trouble.
He likes to cause trouble, and is a notorious prankster. He usually doesn't understand why people don't find it funny... one time he went into a busy subway station, and disentigrated everyone's clothing. Many were injured in the riot that followed... but he didn't understand or take responsibility – they should have laughed it off.
History:
Dominic's family immigrated from Greece when he was very small, and they did their best to raise their boy right... but there was something always off about him. He never quite fit in, never quite adjusted. His father always claimed he “had the devil in him.” - which was one of the many devil-related metaphor's his da' would use about him. “That boy's gonna raise hell and drown the devil” he'd sometimes say.
When Dominic finally made it to high-school, he was already experiencing the first signs of his mutation. His anger (of which he had a lot) would often cause tremors in the earth. Around him. An oddity on the east coast. He chose to hide this mutation the best he could, as he was still trying to live a normal life in high-school. At the age of 16, he was the best wrestler on the team, and even made all-state. Some people claimed it was his greek heritage that made it so.
Still, it didn't stop him from falling in with the wrong crowd... and by 17, he'd dropped out all together. He moved to the streets, and took in with gangs. By 18, he had his own small gang who followed the intense young man with a reputation to be an incredibly good street brawler. After meeting a gang of mutants in a street brawl, and losing to one who used his powers (as minor as they were), he decided he needed to work on his own mutant abilities.
Thus began his year of intense training – out in the abandoned parts of the city, and in the wilderness.
During this year, he encountered John Allerdyce – aka Pyro. (will add this in shortly, when we get the details hammered out. Or we'll just talk about it in game)
Last year, when the cure business was at it's peak, Dom lost his entire mutant gang in a police raid. Most were incarcerated, more than a few were cured forcefully. All were beaten badly by the police. Dom himself managed to get away, and once more realized that no one would help him but himself. So he trained harder than ever, trying to master his own abilities until no cops or other authority figures would challenge him or his family again.
Then he caught the news of Baltimore, and watched in fury as the X-Men tried to protect his cure. He felt deeply that they were playing Uncle Tom, and immediately created a powerful resentment towards them. He lumped the X-Men with the cops. Fuck em'.
What really caught his attention though was that John was on the FBI's most wanted list as the leader of the Brotherhood. He'd heard of those guys before, through the mutant circles – and was upset that he missed the recruiting opportunity that had happened back with the Alcatraz incident... though he was slightly glad he didn't join the bajillion dead mutants on that island.
So now he went back to the mutant circles, with newly enhanced abilities, and set forth looking for contact information on John and the Brotherhood. Hell, the name had a ring to it he could fully appreciate. The Brotherhood. He liked that.
