(ooc: Player of Wolverine/Forge/Deadpool/Deadman. This is lucky charecter #5, I hope I've chosen well.)
Name: Kyle Kennedy
Codename: Guardian
Age: 29
Height: 6'5
Weight: 255 lbs.
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Dark Brown
Appearance:
Guardian is a dashing man with a flashy smile and very handsome, chiseled features. His heritage is of mixed source, being part black, part Hawaiian. His is tall, and very well built, looking the ideal part of the superhero.
His hero costume is still to come...
History:
Kyle Kennedy was born into a family of suburban origins, who raised him to have a fairly conservative value on things. They expressed to him the importance of looking out for one's self in order to avoid oppression or bigotry, and in order to improve the quality of one's life. Sadly, little was taught to him about the value of others' lives.
His mutant powers manifested themselves, as they had with many others, upon puberty. Kyle quickly discovered that he had an impressive array of psychic potential – not that he cared to do anything with it, or even learn enough about it to understand it. He knew the general attitude held towards mutants, and his survivalist, self serving nature pretty much insured that he'd not share the knowledge of his abilities with the folks. Or anyone. Well thankfully they weren't so noticeable as, say, a third arm. They were mostly mental. Some sort of field that could envelop him, overlapping his strength and endurance. It was like a force-field, from his mind. He had another mental power, one that entranced people as he spoke with them, making it often very easy to get his way.
But still, he had to be careful. The country was not ready for mutants, no matter how great, so he sat on them and only used them rarely. Never in front of a lot of people. Never when it could be dangerous.
He had held this belief up into his late twenties. Up until the X-Men became small media icons, or at least house-hold names.
Then the greed really set in. Kyle was a respected salesman in his ad-firm, and almost entirely due to his actual charisma – little due to his empathic persuasion powers... but if the X-Men can be open mutants... why couldn't he be?
Further, why couldn't he do what they did, only better? More controlled. More public, and more WITH the public.
Kyle teamed with the best Ad-exec in the firm, and they slowly began to shape an image. Mold not just an idea, but a complete personality. Phone calls were made, meetings were had, power-lunches were eaten...
and in two weeks, Kyle Kennedy had become... The Guardian!
Already he had found more than ten top-line sponsors. Nike and Reebok were competing over who would engineer his outfit, and Sony had won the rights to make his crime-fighting gear. Perhaps the biggest win of all was the fact that NBC was going to run a reality show staring him, called “the World's First Superhero.”
Once he'd received his super-hero costume and supplied, he decided it was best to make a good first impression. In Washington DC, he hired a mutant he'd met online to do mercenary work for him. What this merc didn't know was that he was doomed to die. His job was simple: Execute a prominent politician during a brunch she was having. It had to be public, it had to be open. Given that the mutant had the ability to assume the form of a giant bug, it would've been easy, since he could have just attacked in bug form and then escaped to turn to human form... but of course, that didn't happen.
As the bug-man seemed to move in for the kill, out came Guardian. He “Saved the day” by blasting the bug with bolts of energy, and flying into it (cape flapping) with a room-shaking punch. The punch killed the bug-man, and thus ending any chance of anyone knowing about the set up. Guardian was officially a super-hero. He had television footage of him saving the politician's life, and killing an evil mutant bug.
His endorsements now under way, and his television show set to come out soon, Guardian makes his way into public fandom... naturally, he'll have all sorts of people whispering into his ear, offering support, advice, and money for various things.
Most notably, however, will be a revival of the mutant registration act... once poo-poo'd by the president, this act will be circulating again, at least in idea form, and some asshole senator or another will be working to get Guardian to publicly support the policy.
Powers:
An extremely powerful psychic, Guardian's primary ability is that of telekinesis. It's very limited in range, though it does work within about five feet of him. The easiest 'stunt' for him, is to use it to envelope his body in a TK field, tightly fitting over his skin. The forcefield is essentially “always on”, and gives him a very powerful invulnerability to physical damage. He also uses the field to make it look as if he can lift incredible amounts of weight (over ten tons,) and also to fly at very fast speeds.
Another aspect of this telekinesis is the ability to generate pure TK force blasts, that look like globules of distortion. These blasts impact with impressive potency, equal to the force of one of his superhuman punches, but have unlimited range.
His secondary ability is an empathic field, emitable to anyone within viewing/listening range of him. The field basically only works if he's trying to communicate to someone, and it works to make their opinion of him and his ideas more favorable. It's almost like a form of hypnosis, it just makes them more malleable. It's resisted with unnaturally high willpowers, and by other psychics.
Weaknesses:
The only team Guardian is on is Guardian's team. He may be extremely powerful, but he also is ultimately concerned about his own ends, and about his own image. He has no friends with which to call for assistance.
More importantly, he's selfish enough that he'll generally flee before facing real death or danger. He's very confident of his abilities and himself, but will not risk his life for anything. Pretty much anything at all.
Other notes:
Guardian is definitely a walking storyline. He could be used in any number of ways, and will definitely prove obnoxious to both the X-Men AND the Brotherhood, and just about anyone in-between.
