Name: Raven Darkholme
Codename(s): Mystique (and a few dozen others, but who's counting?)
Affiliation: Brotherhood
Age: Unknown
Height: (average appearance) 5'11"
Weight: (average appearance) 125lbs
Hair Color: (known natural state) Red
Eye Color: (known natural state) Yellow
Appearance: That's a complicated question.... her default mutant state bears blue-grey flesh with scarlet hair and bright yellow eyes. She has confessed she is always naked, even when it appears she is wearing clothing. When one could wear prada every day of the week, why settle for buying nike? Recently her human form has been revealed, though it's hardly common knowledge as yet. At a similar height and physique, her human skin is fair and her hair black, cropped short.
Personality: Mystique's demeanor changes nearly as often as her appearance. A master manipulator, even idle conversation has its purpose. Her agenda and her loyalties seem interchangeable- but it is rumoured a special few, some living, some dead, do know the true motivations of one of the most powerful mutants in the Brotherhood. Watch her too long, and you will just as likely be met with a gun as a steady, smoldering gaze.
Powers and Abilities:
Shapeshifting- humanoid forms including clothing and materials. She can only partially replicate weight or power level- while she is capable of increasing speed, strength, agility, etc, doing so for an extended period of time will result in fatigue. She is also capable of shifting only certain parts of her body- eyes, hair, clothing- independent of other details. With her ability to perfectly mimic voice patterns, cornea scans and fingerprints, she is easily able to not only disappear into society, but impersonate anyone she chooses.
Various: Slow aging, accelerated healing, some psychic defense capabilities(source: MarvelDatabase.com). Computer expert, specifically trained in network security and database protections. Various martial experience, on large and small scales.
Weaknesses: Instability
History:
(I'd like to reserve my right to abject worship of my favourite Marvel character by staying pretty true to some more classic Mystique histories. Since she's not detailed well in the movies, I think it's easy enough to accomplish. I would like to hint at the character connections from canon, but due to the setting I am willing to work with those characters(Nightcrawler, Rogue, etc) to decide which storyline to be true to.)
Mystique's birth remains a mystery, as does most of her childhood and young adult life. If forced to be truthful, Raven Darkholme would confess she held few memories of those years and of those she does, she'd rather forget. One way or another, she learned to survive.
Under the employ and affection of Irene Adler, Mystique became an expert in intelligence, espionage, and terrorism- all the while marrying, murdering, giving birth, taking lovers, and faking her own death. Above all was the memory of Irene's prophecies, their deeply held belief in man's conspiracy against mutant kind. Mystique and Destiny became responsible for much of the modern Brotherhood's purpose.
Whether she or Magneto were the original founder of the Brotherhood is still widely up for debate, and those who know anything of their history know these rivals-cum-allies play a constant game of cat and mouse, though it's likely they'd argue heartily over who was the cat, and who the mouse. They have betrayed and saved one another multiple times over the last century.
Mystique made a mighty counterpart for him until fate landed two vicious blows: the death of Destiny, her trusted friend and lover; and her capture by the US Government. All that she'd done, all that she'd made of herself was systematically destroyed. On the other end of the ordeal she was put through, Mystique was truly mad. She hardly knew what year it was, or which version of herself she'd ended up being.
Magneto took her in once more, knowing once she had wits about her she would become the ally to the Brotherhood she once had been. She has followed him ardently since, freeing him from prison, defending him to her own detriment. She was hardly surprised when he turned the tables on her at the last minute.
Not for the first time, Mystique is without her powers. She is once again only Raven Darkholme, but she has been many things, in many different circumstances. She is returning to the Brotherhood now, and to her nemesis Magneto. To decide where the future of mutants lies.
