Name: Pietro Django Maximoff
Codename(s): Quicksilver
Affiliation: Unaffiliated - while he may enter into an alignment with one side of the cause or another, Pietro will never be entirely loyal to any side that his sister is not on.
Age: 33
Height: 6'2
Weight: 200 lbs
Hair Color: Very dark metallic grey
Eye Color: Blue-grey
Appearance: Pietro is quite an imposing figure. Though from simply looking at his appearance, there would be little to take note of - he is tall, but in proportion, and while he is attractive, he is not traffic-stoppingly so - he has a presence that makes people pay attention to him.
His most noticeable feature - and the only physical sign of his mutation - is his hair, a dark metallic grey that appears more silvery in direct light, not unlike the liquid metal he is codenamed for. Pietro dresses well, taking pride in his appearance, and can often be found wearing blue.
Personality: The word most commonly used to describe Quicksilver is arrogant. This is partially born of the fact that he IS arrogant, believing himself to actually be better than large parts of the population (both mutant and human), but it is mainly a manifestation of his impatience for the rest of the world. Pietro does EVERYTHING at a much quicker rate than almost everyone else, and thus has little patience for those who do not understand him, and less still for those who would insist that he slow himself down to fit with others. Though he may once have done this as a survival mechanism, Pietro has since abandoned any attempts at hiding who and what he is in favour of being true to himself.
Those he considers worthy of his loyalty gain it absolutely, but those are few and far between. The one person to whom he is loyal to above all others is his twin sister Wanda, who is, in his eyes, a Goddess.
Powers and Abilities: Pietro's entire physiological make-up is adapted to operate at much quicker speeds than the human body is normally capable of. He not only moves faster than the rest of the world without any ill effects, but he thinks and processes information faster and metabolises energy more quickly and effectively also.
He is capable of moving faster than the speed of sound for many hundreds of miles before he tires - although it often seems as if he does not tire, because of how quickly he reaches his destination. Given space to build up momentum, he can run up walls and across water for certain distances - generally not more than a few hundred feet upwards, or a thousand feet across water without starting to sink. He can also move quickly enough to dodge bullets and create gusts of wind that can knock a normal person down. By flapping his arms extremely quickly, Quicksilver can fly for short bursts.
Pietro is a capable hand-to-hand fighter.
Weaknesses: Because Pietro moves and operates far more quickly than the rest of the world, almost nothing is done quickly enough to satisfy him. He constantly feels that he is being held back by society's mind-numbingly slow pace. While he can slow himself down and fit in, it is actually difficult for him to, so he rarely bothers. As such, his mutant nature is known in a world that is not always kind to his species - though thankfully his link to Magneto is not nearly so well known, or the world would be much more dangerous to the Maximoff twins.
His belief that he is actually better than almost all of the population - both mutant and human - means that he does not always endear himself to others. Pietro is not the kind of man that will actively try to make friends - but he cannot always do everything by himself, or, as much as it pains him to admit it, just with his sister. Occasionally, Pietro needs help from others, and he has difficulty asking for it - and, indeed, his manner does not always make people want to help him, even if he does ask.
Finally, Pietro's main weakness is his sister. Though he does not blindly follow everything that she says, if Wanda requests something of him, he is likely to go along with her in the end, and if anyone was ever to threaten his sister... She is the one person that he would give up everything for. The pair, while not inseperable, keep in close contact - and Pietro would drop everything and run halfway 'round the world if he thought she was in trouble.
History: Note: Much of the twins' history has been explained within Wanda's bio already, so I've elected not to rehash everything.
The firstborn of the twins, Pietro spent most of his young life protecting his twin sister from their adoptive father, who did not approve of their obvious mutantcy. Though it was difficult for him, he learned to hide his own mutation in a way that his sister was never able. After the death of their mother, the Maximoff twins were to be sent to their real father - they decided instead to run away and attempt to live on their own.
Magneto, with the help of Charles Xavier, tracked the twins down and tried to take them back to New York with him - but Pietro refused to accept a man who had never been in their lives so readily as his sister. It broke his heart to see Wanda leave him for the love of a completely unknown man, and Pietro stubbornly refused to follow, though he kept in touch with Xavier and regularly asked about his sister.
Wanda had gone with their father, so Pietro returned to their mother's family, returned to school and tried to build a life without his sister. While he did perfectly well - his mind, after all, was and still is quicker than the average - and even considered going on to university, something was missing. His twin.
The day that Wanda came to find him - living with relatives on their mother's side in the United Kingdom still - was a bittersweet day for him. They had been seperated for two whole years, and for the next few years, he followed her everywhere as if to make up for the time they'd lost. Oddly enough, for a man whose body is adapted to quick travl, Pietro found the wandering lifestyle of his sister strangely unsettling, and though he stayed as long as he could it soon became clear that he was not always welcome in the same circles as the Scarlet Witch.
Eventually, he returned to England and his own life. He attended university, became moderately successful in the business world, but was always held back - in his mind, by the people who did not understand him. Perhaps this was the case - perhaps it was his regular absences checking up on his sister. Their two years apart had been far too long for him, and though he felt no need to be joined to her hip, Pietro never wanted to lose contact again.
He even went with her when their father started forming the Brotherhood, allowing himself for the first time since his mother's death to extend any love to someone other than Wanda. Though he was never so obsessively determined to have their father's love and approval as his twin, Pietro did spend some time with the Brotherhood - and the resulting time spent in long talks with his father only served to cement his already arrogant nature. It wasn't until the Brotherhood actually started fighting that he chose to leave, throwing his lot in with his sister rather than his father, since she had been the one constant love in his life.
Though he had chosen not to fight, Pietro always kept in contact with his father, lending a hand whenever he could without alerting his twin to his activities. Like her, he believes that not all mutants are Gods - but while he does consider himself above many mutants, he would prefer them to be inheriting the earth than the humans who have even less chance of understanding what true power is. Having been involved with previous incarnations of the Brotherhood of mutants, Pietro has a high expectation of them - and he does not believe that the current group is living up to his father's name.
