Player: Reineke
Name: Ye Jianyu
Codename: Dharma
Affiliation: Brotherhood
Age: Unknown
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 245
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Black
Appearance: Dharma is incredibly tall for an asian man, though that alone is not the only reason he stands out in a crowd. Athletic and poised, his internal focus causes him to exude a powerful aura even from a distance. He almost always looks ready to act. Most days he dresses simply, but sharp: those that spend time with him may see him in the long black gown of his monastery.
Personality: Dharma is a serious man who thinks on levels most others would not consider. This is not only a matter of supreme intelligence; he has fully realized many fundamental truths the world often takes for granted. What may come off as arrogance is complete detachment. What presents itself as callousness is a basic understanding of himself and others. He is slow to speak as he will never speak words without weight. Those who are not so quick to dismiss what they do not readily understand will find a wealth of conversation and a mind keen to commune with others.
Powers and Abilities:
Shapeshifting: Dharma is able to shift his physical form into any organic substance. Plant, animal, insect, elements. A few examples: He could turn into a wooden buddha, but not a concrete buddha. He could become a gold buddha, but not a steel buddha. If the material itself cannot be found in nature in a raw form, he cannot shift into it.
Shape: He can alter his own form to become any shape he desires but retains the limitations of that form. As a silver knife he could not stab himself into someone, because he would not be able to move. He can become a bird, but will not be able to talk. If he made his body into stone, he couldn't move.
Size: Size is limited to roughly 10 cubic feet. He can become a tall tree, or a boulder, but no taller and/or wider than 10 feet.
Forced Shifting: Dharma can change other organic objects' shapes at will, temporarily. This includes animals and people. The change does not alter the basic structure of the object, but does subject it to the strictures of that substance. The power is more limited when used on others- he must come in physical contact with them, and the change wears off gradually over a number of hours *if the subject being changed is a living organism*. Example: Dharma turns Iceman to stone. He is Iceman-shaped, rather than turning into a stone-shaped object. He will not be able to move.
For nonliving, organic substances(wood, shell, stone), the change is permanent.
Enhanced Physicality: Not an aspect of his mutation but aided by it, Dharma's body is super strong and trained to withstand an ascetic lifestyle. Dharma is often capable of going days without sleep, eats little on a daily basis and can take tremendous amounts of punishment before his body gives out.
Enhanced Mental Faculty: Again not an aspect of his mutation, Dharma has disciplined his mind to a degree that has yet to truly be documented by science. Possessing the famous restraint and focus of the Mahayana buddhist monks. He is difficult to surprise, even when in sleep or meditation(some would say moreso), cannot be distracted from a chosen task and is very difficult to control or read using telepathy.
Weaknesses: Aside from rigorous training and the advantages of his mutant ability, he carries all normal human frailties.
History: Jianyu was raised in the mountains of the Xizang province of China. At a very young age, he was chosen to live in the Buddhist monastery and adopt an ascetic lifestyle. He was a good student, and became a great monk, and it wasn't until he had been there many years that his power came to light. He was immediately sent to visit the Dalai Lama in Drepung, who declared that he had reached Buddhahood. He and Ye Jianyu decided between themselves that he would live out his service in the Shalu monastery, helping others on their path to Enlightenment.
Many years passed until the great conflict between China and Tibet drove the 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso from Tibet, as well as many monks as the monasteries were seized, destroyed, or otherwise desecrated. Jianyu was rousted from his meditations one night to hear screams and gunfire. The attack on Shalu became infamous as the Night Buddha Cursed Communism- a great god appeared in fire and mist form, attacking the soldiers who would harm the monastery. All of them died.
Seemingly lost in the attack, Jianyu fled to Dharamsala, India. When he arrived to speak with Tenzin Gyatso, he found the Dalai Lama confused and hurt by his harmful actions on the soldiers at Shalu. A great rift formed between the two holy men, and Jianyu left. Thrown out of the only life he'd ever known, Jianyu found himself untested by the temptations of the modern world. He took on a pilgrimage to visit each culture, establish himself within it, and conquer its temptations.
Years of travel ended in his arrival in the United States. As the mutant issue became increasingly turbulent, Jianyu watched closely, but did not act. He found himself reminded of many prejudices he had seen throughout his travels, but none more poignantly than the control and conversion of Buddhist monks and nuns in the Xizang province. Deciding on his next challenge, he found his door when violent scenes from a pharmeceutical in Baltimore were plastered over every television screen in the western world. Nodding to himself, he prepared to leave in search of their young leader.
Sample post:
The nervous young man looked up, laughing a bit, then putting his eyes elsewhere as quickly as he could. The subway car shifted, taking their bodies with the motion. Only the tall man beside him did not move, as still as the steel post the others clung to.
"So um... you gotta name?"
"Dharma."
"Dharma huh. That's your, like, mutant name right?"
"Just Dharma."
"Well come on now, ya weren't named Dharma in Japan, were you?"
"I am Chinese."
"Heheh... yeah, Chinese. Gotcha. But you had a name there, right?"
"Not when I left."
The man looked up at Dharma, and swallowed, repeating that raspy nervous laugh. He wasn't sure how he'd ended up being the tour guide on this little trip, but Python was definitely going to owe him one once they got to Genosha.
"So why are you joinin up with these guys again?"
"I am not joining up with them."
"No? Then um, why... why they showin you their hideout?"
"Because I would find it if they did not tell me."
He wasn't sure he wanted to disbelieve that. The guy seemed like some cross between a robot and a god- neither of which he was particularly up for fighting with today. So he nodded, and looked out the window again, watching the scenery go by.
It was going to be a long trip.
