Name: Logan
Codename(s): Wolverine
Affiliation: X-Men
Age: Unknown
Height: 6’2
Weight: 242 lbs
Hair Color: Dark Brown
Eye Color: Hazel
Appearance:
Wolverine is a gruff man, and comes off with the flair of someone who’s part trucker, part biker, part woodsman. He’s incredibly well built and carries himself like a professional warrior or killer, though often is very casual in his mannerisms and movements. His hair style is unique, forming two strange points at the top of each side of his head, and he wears his facial hair often unshaved, with large chops that come from his sideburns down to stop before his chin. His eyes hold a smoldering intensity that is hard to duplicate.
He often wears simple jeans and hiking boots, with a T-shirt and jacket. He’s rarely seen without a cigar.
Personality:
As gruff as he looks, he’s ten times gruffer in his demeanor. Logan is the complete blue collar super-hero, saying things that many people cringe at, and having a distinct lack for social tact – and an impatience in general for the social graces. He has a short fuse, and a vicious angry intensity. Logan likes to give people nicknames, usually for his own amusement, but sometimes just to push people’s buttons. He believes in his own decision making processes to a fault, and relies heavily on his instincts to guide him through situations. He’s very stubborn, and completely relentless. Regardless of hard-case exterior, animalistic emotional wiring, and anger-management issues, Wolverine is driven at his core by a very stubborn sense of honor. It guides the core of his actions, even if they are decorated by his viciousness.
History:
Despite all he’s been through, the majority of Logan’s past is shrouded in mystery. He knows that many years ago he was involved in an experiment, run by William Stryker, at Alkali Lake in Canada. He knows that the experiment laced his bones with unbreakable adamantium, and possibly gave him the retractable blades of the same impermeable metal. According to Stryker, he volunteered for the experiment, and was a bad man, an animal.
The only real history we know of him begins with him wonder across the Canadian countryside, not living up to his potential. He is a vagabond, driving a truck with a small trailer, and journeying from bar to bar, and fight to fight. This all changed when he encountered a young girl named Rogue, whom he began to warm up to when he was attacked by Sabertooth. Though he revealed no knowledge of the man, the two of them have a very close history.
The attack ended with an intervention by the X-Men, but Logan was rendered unconscious. He woke in the Xavier Institute for Gifted Youngsters, a school devoted to helping mutants everywhere. There he reluctantly joined forces with the X-Men, because Professor X said he’d help him find his past using his telepathy.
It was there, also, that he fell in love with Jean Grey, who was already involved with Cyclops. Their relationship would always be a thorn in Wolverine’s side, who deeply cared for Jean, and had a grudging respect for Cyke.
It was soon discovered that Rogue was part of a central plot by Magneto, and Logan helped the X-Men get her back, even donning an X-Man uniform while doing so. He was, more or less, an official X-Man at this time.
When the excitement of Ellis Island was over, he took Xavier’s suggestion, and revisited Alkali Lake, only to find nothing. When he returned, Xavier told him that the brain remembers when it wants too, and there’s no amount of telepathy that’s going to help him, he needed to help himself. Logan volunteered to stay at the school to baby-sit the kids while everyone else went out on missions. Naturally, the school was attacked.
After killing many, many soldiers, Logan was confronted by Stryker, who stunned Wolverine by knowing about his past. The confrontation ended when Iceman created a wall of ice between the two, and he had to go help the trio of Iceman, Pyro, and Rogue.
Soon, he had another confrontation with Jean, and kissed her. She refused his offer, claiming that she may want it, but she knew what she really wanted – and that was Cyclops. That same night Mystique came to his tent as Jean, and noted expressed interest in him – likely because he had defeated her at Ellis Island.
Later, it became obvious that Stryker was holed up in the underground of Alkali Lake’s facility, so Wolverine joined the X-Men once more and helped rescue Professor X and the kidnapped children. He fought another mutant nearly the exact same as himself, a woman named Lady Deathstrike, who was another of Stryker’s experiments. It was here he confronted Stryker one more time, and learned a bit more, but chose to help his friend rather than learn more from the man. In his final confrontation, Logan threw his dog-tag at Stryker, making an active choice to be on the side of the light, rather than the dark.
One of the pivotal points in his life happened minutes later, when Jean Grey sacrificed her life to save the rest of the X-Men. Logan was completely heartbroken, but knew that Cyclops was much worse off.
His more permanent intentions towards the X-Men happened later, when he showed up as a sub for Cyclops, who’d returned to Alkali Lake after having dreams of Jean. During this time Wolverine and Storm exchanged many heated arguments over how to train the kids and work as a team, and there was obvious tension between the two. Professor X told them they needed to go to Alkali Lake, where they discovered the unconscious body of Jean, and found evidence Cyclops was dead.
Back at the school, Wolverine had a conversation with Jean about how much he missed her, and nearly had sex with her when he realized she wasn’t really herself. When Jean realized it was the alternate personality, the Dark Phoenix, who’d taken over, she asked Wolverine to kill her before she could kill anyone else. He didn’t, so she blasted him unconscious and left.
Wolverine and Storm were with Professor X when he went to confront her at her childhood home, and Wolvie had to tangle with Juggernaut. The fight ended in a stalemate, and it turned out Xavier was killed at the hands of Phoenix, who then left with Magneto.
Logan was given visions by Jean, as to where to find them, and he followed them to Magneto’s camp, where he brutally murdered many, many mutants who tried to stop them. I mean, he really kicked these guys asses. When he found Jean, he was tossed away by Magneto after a brief conversation, and knocked out.
He then went back to the X-Mansion, and teamed with the X-men to put a stop to Magneto, and find Phoenix. The confrontation happened at Alcatraz, and Wolverine (and the other X-men) had to kill, again, many, many mutants. In the end, he had to ultimately kill Jean to stop the Dark Phoenix, and because it was her wishes. He knew it had to be done, but it was the hardest decision he’d ever have to make. He killed his true love.
In the end, he realized that he had true leadership potential – having formulated many a battlefield tactic with the X-Men by this time, and looking at the graves of Scott, Jean, and Xavier, he finally came to grips with the importance of the school, and of the X-Men.
Now…
As it turned out, he still needed a lot more time to clear his head, and come to grips with all of the events at Alcatraz. He reluctantly told the school goodbye, and took off on the road, to find himself. It’s been months, and finally Logan has made a semblance of peace in himself. Killing Jean was an impossibly horrible situation for anyone to be in. Seeing your love murdered was one thing, but having to stab her yourself? It was completely unbearable – and despite what Scott had once told him, his healing factor didn’t exactly heal those types of wounds…
Now Logan heads back to the one place he’s ever defined as home, the Xavier Institute. He’ll likely have a quick side-stop to make first, however.
Powers:
Wolverine’s primary power is his Healing Factor. Not only does it allow him to recover from any wound at an amazing rate, it also slows his aging process almost completely, and renders him virtually immune to disease, poison, or infection of any kind. It was the only thing that allowed him to survive the process of putting the adamantium in his body.
Whether or not the healing factor is responsible for these other minor abilities is unknown, but Logan also possesses enhanced strength, speed, and endurance, as well as animal-keen senses, primarily smell and hearing.
He also has retractable forearm blades, or claws, that come out between his fingers and extend to about a foot in length. There are three on each arm. As with the rest of his bones, these claws are adamantium, and completely invulnerable to physical damage. Whether these claws existed in bone form before his experimentation is unknown.
Otherwise, Wolverine is a keen warrior, with an unknown amount of experience. He seems at home on the battle-field, and has amazing tracking, stealth, and fighting skills.
Weaknesses:
Wolverine is rash, often acting on impulse and letting his anger guide his decisions to his detriment.
