Name: Adrien Scott
Codename(s): The Voyager
Affiliation: Restored Human
Age: 23
Height: 5'8
Weight: 130
Hair Color: brown/black
Eye Color: brown
Appearance: Adrien is an attractive woman with fair skin and sable-black hair. She is thin and relatively athletic, but unspectacular otherwise. Most often she wears simple dresses or jeans and tshirts. To read she carries a pair of glasses and is usually seen with a small silver locket around her neck.
Personality: A wounded bird at best, Adrien's once intelligent, charming personality has been sharply curtailed by the trauma of losing her mutant ability. She retained her friendly, warm nature but is now far more reserved. Clever, witty, and well read, she is an excellent conversationalist so long as one does not touch on the subject of her family and her experiences with the Cure.
Powers and Abilities: Prior to receiving the Cure, Adrien was capable of flight-like travel at incredible speeds, up to seven times the speed of sound. During travel she was semi-corporeal, not harmed by impact with objects but rather travelling through them, though the objects themselves retained damage. She could carry objects and individuals with her provided she could hold onto them during flight.
Weaknesses: Normal human frailties.
History: Adrien discovered her abilites very early. Born into a devout Charismatic Christian family, the third oldest of nine children, she was raised within the church and taught its value structure. As her parents became aware of the strange behaviors, rather than take her to a psychologist or doctor, she was taken to the pastor- who then declared her mutation devilry and possession of the worst kind. For years she was subjected to various attempts to rid her of her 'curse' through faith healing. As she grew into a young woman she often battled feelings of shame, dread, guilt, and fear, wanting badly to be just like everyone else, but occasionally realizing how wonderful her abilities could be.
On spring break in her last year at Georgia State, she returned home to find her family prepared to confront her once again about her 'turning from God'. It was true, she hadn't been as faithful in the years since she left to live in the dorms, hadn't attended church regularly, and had been indulging herself in her travels as she tried to discover for herself what being a mutant meant. They guilted her into attending a revival with them up town, but when they arrived, she was set upon by her older brothers, held down on a table as her father administered the Cure. Screaming as if she were being killed, she begged them not to, but received only one response. "Go with God, sister..."
Sample post:
Adrien had been hiding in her dorm for two weeks, having applied for a reprieve from classes due to 'a death in the family'. It was more or less true.
Friends would come and go, trying to cheer her up. Kathy brought marshmallow fluff on peanut butter sandwiches. Kevin brought his bong.. sweet as it was she wasn't really in the mood to get loaded. Laura just sat with her and watched soap opera after soap opera. And then, Jessie and Aaron brought someone new to visit.
His name was Caleb.
"Why would anyone actually choose to lose their mutant ability?" Adrien had said to him, incredulous. "Isn't that like... an african american bleaching their skin?"
He smiled. "Believe it or not, some mutations aren't that pleasant. I have a friend who couldn't touch anyone. No hugs, no kisses, nothing. Wouldn't you want to be rid of that?"
To be truthful, she'd never considered it. And still something about it made her stomach twist into knots. She just wanted to fly again. They'd robbed her of her sense of self. Adrien remembered screaming "Am I acceptable now?! Will God take me into heaven NOW?" at her family as she walked away from the house in a tearful fury.
"So..." she looked down at her hands, holding onto one another tightly. "There's a place for us. Those of us who.." ..have nothing left, her mind finished.
Caleb put a hand on her arm. "Yeah, there is. At least consider it?"
