Name: Takeo Spikes
Codename(s): Tusk
Affiliation: X-Student
Age: 17
Height: 7’
Weight: 500lbs
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Brown
Appearance:
Takeo is a hulking behemoth of a young man. His face and skin appear as a normal young black man’s, but that’s where the normalcy ends. His back hunches up around his shoulders, but he is not stooped over. His shoulders and upper back have transformed into think plate-like skin of a light tan color. These plates begin at his collar bones and extends over his shoulders, neck, and back. From the tips of each collar bone, protruding grotesquely from each shoulder, are one and a half foot long curved spikes, from which Takeo takes his mutant name – Tusk. The spikes and plate-hide make up the majority of Tusk’s bulk, though his arms, legs, and torso are all of above-average musculature. He’s most often seen wearing gym shorts or sweat pants, with a XXXL wife-beater and hoodie on.
Personality:
Takeo is a bully, but isn’t without a good natured side. His years at the top of the high school hierarchy have instilled in him a sense of entitlement and elevation that his deforming mutation has done little to quell. His confidence in himself hasn’t been shaken by his change in appearance (despite the reactions of his friends and family), and he is vehemently pro-mutant. He despises the Cure and all who took it.
Powers and Abilities:
Tusk’s height and weight alone are devastating as weapons. He was at the peak of human strength before his mutation, and now his increased bulk has increased his strength as well.
His tough hide plates on his shoulders and back provide nigh-invulnerability from attacks.
Tusk’s spikes are extremely sharp and strong, and his past as a lineman would allow him to use them to his full advantage. He’s never used them on another person, but should he ever, it’s certain the victim would be killed instantly.
Tusk’s most dangerous power is one he doesn’t even know he has – yet. From Tusk’s hulking back, he has the ability to generate smaller replications of himself. These creatures are about half the size of Tusk, with similar physical prowess (diminished for their size). He can create up to four of these creatures, each of whom can think independently, yet don’t have the full mental faculties of a normal mutant.
Weaknesses:
While Tusk’s shoulders and back are protected immensely well, the rest of his body is subject to the same pains and dangers as anyone else.
Takeo’s strong will and stubbornness can get him into situations that he cannot back out of – which is never been a problem in the human community, but could cause problems in a world where not everyone is weaker than him.
History:
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Takeo was always a big boy. He was beating up third graders in kindergarten, and eighth graders in fourth grade. He lived in one the the slightly better neighborhoods of the city, but that’s not saying much for Baltimore. He grew up tough, knowing that the biggest blackest guy in the school was usually also the most popular. It was an easy decision when the coach at his school asked him to join the varsity football team as a freshman – he had been waiting to be on the team since he first threw a football. A sport where he’s allowed and, in fact, encouraged to knock around the other players? What could be better?
Things went smoothly throughout his years in high school. Being a lineman on the best football team in their section, he was treated like royalty, and being as big as he was, he never worried about anything happening to him in the halls of school or the streets of his town. He lost his virginity after his first winning game in ninth grade, and started smoking weed and drinking shortly afterwards.
Everything was great until the day he noticed the small spikes beginning to grow on his shoulders. At first, he worried that it was just an abnormal bone growth, and hoped that it wouldn’t affect his tackles. But when the bones began to hurt and push against the skin, and it began to become obvious something...supernatural was happening...that’s when he began to really worry.
During the homecoming game of his senior year, Takeo was lined up against Mike Landy during the third quarter of a losing game – a rare player even bigger than him. Mike snarled in his face, smiling with the certainty that he was going to destroy Takeo. But when the ball was hiked, Takeo rushed forward harder and fiercer than he ever had before, sweating and shaking with the adrenalin rush of fear and excitement, summoning all his will into knocking Landy on his ass. Not only did he knock Landy down, he knocked him out, and flung him thirty feet down the field.
As Takeo had smashed into Landy, his body had erupted in transformation, tearing his pads and uniform to pieces and revealing a hulking frightening form. Takeo barely felt the change in his excitement, but quickly came to realize why every person in the stadium was staring at him. He rushed from the field, horrified that he was now some kind of freak, even worse than the kinds he beat up in the school hallways.
For the remainder of the semester, he stayed cooped up in his home, at the behest of his mama. Surprisingly, his teammates and friends were not as terrified or hateful as he feared they would be, and he attended many parties while staying out of school, showing off his newfound powers by tipping over cars and crushing furniture. Even though his popularity and renown hadn’t changed, he still felt that his life was different, yet didn’t know what to do.
When he saw the X-Men battle the Brotherhood in his hometown, Tusk was practically bursting with excitement – he knocked his bedroom door off its hinges while running for the phone. He called the Xavier Institute that same day, and received all the information about the school that he ever wanted. When he broached the subject with his mama, however, she smacked him across the mouth and said, “We been through enough trouble without you heading off to a fancy private school for freaks!”
Tusk retreated to his room – he was always scared of his mama – but he dreamed about the school since that day, thinking how amazing it would be to go to a school filled with awesome people just like him...
