Name: Hepzibah, goes by the nickname of “Zee”
Codename(s): Hepzibah
Affiliation: Brotherhood
Age: 22
Height: 5’6”
Weight: 125lb
Hair Color: Cream/Off-White and Black
Eye Color: Green
Appearance: An interesting mixture between human and what is commonly mistaken for feline (but is actually more skunk like), Hepzibah is very easily picked as a mutant. Her body is covered in a thin, soft fur which is a pale cream (ivory-like) colour in almost all areas of her body except for a long black stripe that begins at the front of her hair line and progresses down the back of her head, neck, back and finishes at the tip of her tail, all the time growing in width. Because this black marking is actually a pigment of Hepzibah’s skin, all of the hair that grows from the darker area is also black, and so her long, straight locks of hair also bear this impression with the centre section of hair around her part being black, the underneath locks of cream showing through in a similar fashion to the hairstyle of one who had paid for it to be streaked by a professional. Hepzibah often wears a red silk scarf tied about her hair, the ends of which she lets spill out from underneath and extend to well past her shoulders.
Hepzibah’s eyes are large, almond-like in shape and angle upwards at the outside edges, framed by sharp and thin black eyebrows that do the same, giving her a very much cat-like and also rather devious appearance. Her ears are large, elongated to at least twice the length of that of an average human, angling backwards and finishing with a point. She also possesses a very large and bushy tail, the length of which extends over her head when it is held straight up in the air behind her. It is plume-like in appearance, expanding dramatically in size towards the end before finishing. The remainder of her features are very human-like in appearance.
Preferring to wear comfortable clothes at all times for ease of movement, Hepzibah is rarely seen in a pair of jeans. Usually, she will fit herself into plain trousers of a stretch material (yoga-type pants and the like), which she almost always has to alter herself before wear to allow for the escape of her tail (yet another reason for the stretch material – theres a lot of fur back there!!). She will most often go about her business bare-foot, however does possess a pair of sneaker-like black boots that she can be persuaded to wear on the odd occasion when footwear is mandatory. Hepzibah keeps most of her clothing dark in colour, her favourites being red and black. She does wear a lot of silver jewellery, including having a few holes in each ear, and one in her nose.
Personality: Headstrong, hard-nosed and sometimes hare-brained, Hepzibah is a true believer in herself. She knows fully well that she can do whatever she likes, go wherever she likes, and get whatever she wants out of life – and she has absolutely no hesitation in doing any of these three at whatever time she pleases. Initially finding herself limited by her move to the USA, since doing so she has discovered her vice for thievery and revenge, and revels in the act of stealing from those who may have crossed her, or denied her services or jobs because of her mutation.
Hepzibah is curious to the bone, and very intelligent. She always wants to know what is going on, and if she finds a topic that is of interest to her, she will take no hesitation in researching as much as possible about said topic, until she is satisfied that she is an expert in all things to do with it. A result of this thirst for knowledge is that Zee now possesses a rather crammed-full memory, and has a nasty habit of spouting irrelevant and sometimes inappropriate trivia facts, and also she knows the Dewey Decimal System inside out – a skill that is boggling to most. If someone was to raise one of her areas of expertise in conversation, then they deserve to be pitied, for she would likely not shut up for a very long time.
Aside from these quirks, Hepzibah is a very determined and stubborn woman. She is loyal to her causes, confident in herself and her abilities, and will prove to be a very valuable teammate.
Powers and Abilities: Hepzibah possesses most of the abilities that one would deem as inherent of a skunk or other land mammal, such as a polecat or feline. Because of her mutation, she not only physically appears skunk-like, but also possesses enhanced speed, agility, and reflexes. She is able to walk quickly along thin surfaces with the greatest of confidence, and leaping long distances between them without trouble, a skill that she has found particularly useful in recent times.
She also has hyper-keen senses and night vision, her largely pointed and mammal-like ears easily picking up sounds that are well out of the range of normal human hearing, acting as a sound shell and amplifier to the smallest of noises. Hepzibah has retractable claws, which are curved and particularly sharp, capable of causing large lacerations in human skin, or aiding her in climbing or digging if need be.
Hepzibah’s tail is skunk-like, large and when held straight extends slightly above the top of her head like a large plume with a pointed tip. This tail helps Hepzibah with her balance as well as being used subconsciously (as is the case with most animals) by the skunk-like woman to display any current feelings and moods, or changes in such. She also has slightly enhanced strength, being able to lift (press) twice her own bodyweight (up to 250lb).
Also inherit of the skunk, Hepzibah possesses the ability to secrete pheromones via the stimulation of a small gland situated near her anus. Obviously the only time that this gland is ever stimulated is during intercourse, and the pheromones that secrete as a result are not scented as a skunks’ are, but instead mind-altering with varying effects similar to the drug LSD, or acid. This, of course, can make having sex with Hepzibah quite a ‘psychedelic’ affair, and one that very few have actually had the pleasure of experiencing.
Weaknesses: Hepzibah is not a metamorph, and is unable to shift out of her skunk-like form. Because of this, her physical mutation is with her at all times, making her not only easy to visually out as a mutant, but also vulnerable as limits are posed upon her as a direct result of the enhancements that her mutation gives (see below).
Vision: Hepzibah can see much better than humans in a badly lit environment, her keen eyesight being able to use the reflections and low light of the stars and moon to her advantage much easier than any human (even if they have been eating their carrots). However, this ability comes at the expense of her daytime vision and during the lighted hours between Dawn and Dusk, Zee is relatively near sighted and tends to rely more on her senses of smell and sound. Hepzibah has a good ability to detect motion, and can often see or detect movements that are too fast for human eyes, though during bright light or daylight she does often find it difficult to focus on very slow movement.
Hearing: Zee has sharp ears, adapted especially for high-pitched noises and can hear sounds that are approximately three times higher in frequency than humans can. Her ears are relatively large to her head, and have the ability to move sideways so that sounds may be captured more easily. Directly because of this, however, she is unable to hear or distinguish between particularly low-pitched noises that may be more easily picked up by one with a more human sense of hearing.
Since applying for her American Visa after the Mutant Rights Bill, a copy of Hepzibah's details (including those about her mutation) are all kept on Government file. This could be potentially very dangerous for Zee, as if she is caught on any kind of surveillance camera or the like, she can be immediately identified and found.
History: Born in Puerto Viejo, a small, tourism oriented town on the Eastern Coast of Costa Rica, Hepzibah was abandoned by her biologicl parents at a young age, the young couple unable to deal with their daughters alien appearance, the small girl born with pale, ashen skin and a large dark marking down her back. She spent the first years of her life cared for by a neighbouring couple, who took the young girl in gladly, unable to have children of their own. They named her Hepzibah, meaning “My delight is in her”.
She grew to love her new parents, her mother teaching her, and her father often taking her out on the seas as a young girl. He owned a large yacht, one of the biggest around, and was impressed at Hepzibah’s abilities to run about on the edges of the vessel at high speed, without any worry of falling into the ocean at a very young age. Sailing with her father became one of young Hepzibah’s greatest delights, and she spent as much time with him on the sea as possible during her childhood.
As Hepzibah rapidly approached her teen’s, the tourism industry in Puerto Viejo boomed, and her father found his yacht in high demand for chartered tours of the bay, and other hosted events on the sea. Attitudes towards his different daughter from these tourists, however, were vastly different to those of the locals, and it became quickly apparent that he would have to exclude her from these sailings if he was to earn the family any kind of money. The news came as a very large disappointment to Zee, who responded by focusing almost too hard on her schoolwork. As she worked through her early teens, she became quite a bookworm and almost all but forgot about her times on the ocean, and also about the bond that she used to share with her parents, becoming a vegetarian and less and less interested in the water as each day progressed. Around the age of 13, Hepzibah discovered the beginnings of her tail – a growth from the base of her spine. Easily hidden at first, but mighty painful to sit on, Hepzibah continued to attend school – even when her ears began to take shape. Hiding her ears with a hat and binding her tail to her body with bandages underneath her clothing every day, she fiercely continued her studies. By the time she had hit 16, however, her mutation had developed fully, and she was forced to keep her studies at home by correspondence, and with help from her mother.
Come the age of 18 and Hepzibah was ready to leave home, her mind set on getting a job and saving to attend College in the United States, hopeful that there would be more people like here there. Her parents agreed reluctantly, both of them nervous to see the mutant girl leave, but also knowing that there wasn’t much further that Hepzibah could do in their small town.
Hepzibah arrived in New York City with only a little, and she found that things weren’t fantastic, nor set to improve quickly. She was forced to hide most of her body while out and about, and managed to get a very rudimentary apartment in a rather unsavory section of town with the small amount of money she had arrived with. Choosing not to apply for a Visa immediately, she was unable to find a job, and subsequently spent most of her time at the library and in her apartment, always applying for work but never managing to land anything. It was soon made apparent to her that the attitude towards mutants in the US was no different than anywhere else, and Hepzibah quickly took up smoking as a de-stressing agent, which soon turned into an addiction.
Living in this way for a couple of years, Hepzibah forced herself towards petty crime in order to keep herself a place to stay. She found it rather easy, and in fact soon came to revel in her thievery despite its immoral standing. It was a way for her to be who she really was, and also a rather large helping hand in her personal satisfaction that she was exacting revenge on all of those who had denied her service or even common politeness because of her appearance. Once the Mutant Rights Bill was passed, Zee found herself able to apply for a Visa, and did so, though by now preferred to continue her life of petty crimes rather than attempt to get a real job.
Approximately ten months ago, Hepzibah discovered the propaganda surrounding a research project that the media named a ‘cure’ for being a mutant. Initially skeptical of the drug and it’s effectiveness, her skepticism only grew as she learned more about it, until the day where she saw the press conference on television. From there, her skepticism took an about turn, changing into complete opposition and disgust toward the ever increasingly hyped ‘cure’.
Shortly after the announcement of the cure, Hepzibah’s attention was taken by the actions of a group that were named ‘The Brotherhood’. Viewing their destruction via television in her apartment, she felt compelled by the group’s actions, an excitement in her stomach in the knowlege that there was a group of mutants around that cared for each other and fought for their own rights. With their attacks against Alcatraz, they proved their superiority over the humans, and she found herself swelling with pride, and the distinct realization that the reason behind the cure was a simple thing: fear.
Hepzibahs life has since leapt into a direction after hearing more of the Brotherhood’s actions, and seeing televised footage of their more recent acts against the cure again in Baltimore. The fights between the Brotherhood and the X-Men, and also the Sentinels were broadcast all over the country, and as she watched from her apartment Hepzibah made a decision. She was going to change her life, and decided to seek them out.
Sample post: The night air was cool, though Hepzibah didn’t notice. She was wrapped just about head to toe in cloth – her scarf on her head, covering her ears, a high neck shirt, long jacket, pants, boots, the works. There was also the added bonus of having fur – but tonight she had had to do her best to hide it. Her tail was strapped to her person, a rather uncomfortable experience, and one she didn’t take lightly. She hated having to do it, but sometimes being incognito was simply necessary. She was sure that she looked rather odd, at any rate. Her tail wasn’t exactly small.
Sighing to herself, she shrunk her face down as far as she could into her collar and shoved her hands in her pockets at the light of an approaching car, its engine masking the sound of her boots for a few seconds, its noise increasing as it approached. Her green eyes watched, squinting as the taxicab rode past her, the cat-like pupils contracting to only a mere amount more than a slit as it’s headlights invaded her sight, blinding her for a moment. Light was a bastard, she had decided, and so she kept to the shadows.
Her left hand closed around her prize for the night, a small trinket that she should be able to trade in for a week’s worth of cigarette and grocery money. Hepzibah smiled to herself as she walked, her apartment building looming only a block away. Soon she would find them, she could tell that she was getting close. Nobody was really confident enough to simply point her in the right direction, nor give her a name, but she was getting there. Research was one of her skills, and she was glad for it. Hepzibah, member of the Brotherhood. It had a nice ring to it.
