(Player of Conduit, Mystique, Phase)
Name: Jonothan Evan Starsmore
Codename(s): Chamber
Affiliation: X-men
Age: 28
Height: 6'
Weight: 120(mass missing, see below; appearance would indicate average weight and build)
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Brown
Appearance: Chamber is handsome, tall and lithe, his physical shell well built. His body language is confident and calm, belying his sometimes debilitating manic depression. He almost always wears a pair of black leather pants with black boots and often times, a matching black leather jacket. All are well worn from use. Beneath the jacket he usually wears a black tanktop, his upper torso wrapped over and over with black athletic tape, some across his chest, some criss-crossing over his sternum and around his shoulders. The wrapping continues along his neck and up onto his face, stopping just beneath his nose.
Personality: Chamber is not what anyone could describe as 'easy going'. Serious to a fault, his emotions run deep and none who know him would deny that loyalty and devotion to his friends, dedication to the cause of right and perseverance in the face of extreme odds are defining facets of his personality. Chamber has never fully accepted his fate, and spends an inordinate amount of time berating himself silently for offending people by his mere presence. Thus he is most often entirely silent, greeting you with his somber, direct gaze, except with those he knows wish to 'hear' what he has to say. Chamber has a temper as a result of his extreme emotions, and can be incredibly moody for reasons not readily apparent on any given day. Aside from these seemingly off-putting traits, Chamber is a giving individual who cares for the welfare of others, whether he knows them or not. It takes a special person to see past the walls he has constructed; but those that have consider him high on their list of allies.
Powers and Abilities:
Psionic Energy Generation: Chamber's chest cavity is a nexus of psionic activity. It sustains his life force so that he is not required to eat, drink, breathe, or sleep. As with a number of other mutants(Jean Gray, Elixir, Iceman), this power renders Chamber virtually deathless; his material self is inconsequential to his psionic self. Should his physical body be damaged, he is capable of regenerating at a very slow rate all parts of his body save his chest and lower facial areas(due to their proximity to the nexus). In addition, due to the nature of this ability Chamber is tireless, incapable of being stopped in his pursuit so long as his physical form retains enough matter to accomplish the task he desires it to. Restated, he reacts just as any homo sapiens would to injury or pain, but takes no reduction to his stamina in the process.
Psychokinetic Blast: Chamber is capable of unleashing tremendous amounts of energy from his chest cavity in focused, directed blasts. This sort of energy assault attacks objects at a molecular level and obliterates them at the area of contact. Chamber is capable of focusing these blasts to hairline precision or radial explosions of energy capable of destroying a city block. Xavier once hypothesized that if Chamber were capable of fully controlling his power, he could well destroy the earth itself- though of course, his physical form along with it. Earth's saving grace is the fact that Chamber is so loath to fully understand his mutant nature that his ability to control it is amateur at best. While he is capable of mass destruction, anything over the strength of a 1-ton explosion is incredibly unlikely.
(ooc note: Because I don't wish for the above paragraph to be misinterpreted, I want to make it clear that the description is for story flavor. Chamber is a ridiculously high powered mutant held back by his own mental problems. I never intend for the character to overcome those problems nor do I intend to make him godlike in his powers. I do however believe it adds a great deal to the feeling of the character to define his powers as I have.)
Telepathy: Chamber's psionic self adapted to the loss of his vocal chords and mouth by allowing him to communicate telepathically with individuals or small groups within his line of sight. This power is limited only to communication; he can neither read minds nor influence them.
Psychic Resistance: Due to Chamber's nature as a psionic creature in a physical shell, it is very difficult for any mutant with telepathy or like powers to do anything other than observe his thoughts. Any attempt to control, or manipulate Chamber's mind is frustrating at best.
Weaknesses: Due to the events surrounding the discovery of his mutant powers, which resulted in the loss of much of his ribcage and the lower half of his face, Chamber is incapable of speaking. While this may seem a mild affliction, Chamber's efforts to communicate are often curtailed by his inability to smile, laugh, sing, etc. If in danger and out of eyeshot of his allies, he would not be able to call for help. If he is not in the room with an individual, he is entirely alone- unable to use a telephone or call someone in from another room. This isolation only compounds Chamber's considerable self doubt.
History: Jonothan's life was entirely normal until he reached the age of sixteen. On an outing with his girlfriend Gayle, his powers manifested at seeming random- nearly killing Gayle, and destroying his chest cavity and lower jaw. The power of that first psionic burst was detected by Xavier, and he was contacted within hours by a member of the X-Men. Unable to explain to his parents what had happened, he allowed them, as well as Gayle, to assume he had died in the mysterious explosion at the lake- and attended classes while staying at the school, making very few friends. Of those he did, they remain his allies to this day. In his time there he came to love music as a way of expressing himself out loud, learning to play the guitar and several other instruments.
At the age of 20 he left the school. Unable to communicate with non-mutants in a way that would allow him to live a normal life, he wandered continually, carrying a love-worn electric guitar with him wherever he went. Jono, as his family and friends knew him, lingered most often near bars where he could plug in his instrument and be with people for a while, free of his self consciousness. Inevitably he would have to stop playing, and the questions would come up again. It frightened most of them to speak in their minds, so most who met him during those years never knew his name.
Occasionally Xavier has called on him to aid the X-Men in their duties. Though the title of X-Man has been offered to him a number of times; he has always politely refused. For some reason he always believed himself unworthy of the role.
During the last few years Chamber has not had his head in the sand; he has watched, sometimes fought, remaining on the sidelines and disappearing once the smoke cleared. The news of Xavier's death reached him months after. Jonothan found himself rocked to the core. He realized perhaps he hadn't been there for his friends the way they had always been there for him. He carries a guilt he may never be rid of, but isn't selfish enough to indulge in; his travels take him back to the X-Men now, to offer himself up to the cause.
(ooc: I would really, really like it if we could hook Storm and Chamber's histories up. I'm unsure of the timing but I'd love for them to have known each other in the past, through their work for the X-Men, hopefully having become close friends. Storm's interactions with Nightcrawler in the movies lead me to believe she has a soft spot and understanding for tormented introverts with strange physical affectations. )
