Joining Application:
Name: Marie D'Ancanto
Codename(s): Rogue
Affiliation: Restored Human--->X-Men
Age: 20
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 110
Hair Color: Brown with two white streaks (or one depending on how it's styled)
Eye Color: Green
Appearance: Rogue has brown hair past her shoulders with two white streaks framing either side of her face. She stands at only 5’5’’ and weighs 110 pounds with an average frame. She doesn’t consider herself petite, but rather voluptuous in a good way; she has curves that most women only dream of, flattering her body. Rogue also has delicate features reminiscent of a southern belle. Her skin is white, mostly due to the fact that she has kept most of her skin covered for several years. She has emerald green eyes that sparkle when she’s happy.
For the longest time she didn’t wear make-up, but as she has grown older she has become partial to mascara, eyeliner, lip gloss, and a tiny bit of blush to add some color to her cheeks. Her choice of clothing has usually been in the interests of hiding her skin from contact with others. She finds that she is most comfortable in jeans and a long sleeved shirt, but recently began to experiment with items more appealing on her figure. Off the shoulder tops, dark colors that accent the streaks in hair, and form fitting jeans have become her regular choice of wear.
Personality: Rogue started out as fairly shy because of her powers, but since then she has slowly blossomed into a social butterfly. She tries to be friendly at first meeting, usually warming to people quicker than she used to. She has a great sense of humor, finding amusement in the littlest of things, most of which stemmed from jokes John used to tell when he was still at the mansion. She is sweet natured, not one to partake in fights unless provoked, trying to find a happy medium in everything going on, even though she really has very little patience to begin with.
Rogue also has a bit of a wild side, something she gained after coming into contact with Logan and his psyche. When he’s around Rogue will occasionally show a penchant for trouble, usually going hand in hand with her quick tongue and cold as ice attitude. During these times Rogue can be quite moody, snapping at the drop of a hat, growing angry over the littlest things that she would otherwise gloss over, taking risks she wouldn’t normally take.
Since the cure however Rogue has returned to her southern roots being as hospitable and friendly as they come. She has taken on a more motherly nature in caring for those living with her and would do anything to protect them. She continuously puts others before herself, trying hard to keep those she cares about content and safe. Some would say that she is fiercely protective of her friends these days, yet still as charming as ever upon first meeting.
Powers and Abilities: The ability to absorb the life force of humans and mutants through physical, skin to skin, contact, as well as the ability to temporarily borrow a mutant’s powers. Doing so left her with thoughts and memories belonging to the person she touched.
Weaknesses: Occasionally Rogue still has dreams belonging to the psyches stuck in her head, making her wary of everything around her, sometimes even making her forget who she is. This process wears off, but it disorients Rogue enough that she grows a migraine and cannot be bothered to accomplish anything.
History: Marie once had a normal life in Meridian, Caldecott County, Mississippi. She was an only child, growing up in a small house with her parents. She attended high school and had a boyfriend in whom she told about her dreams of traveling the world one day. Unfortunately on that same day she shared her first kiss with this boy and he ended up in a coma for three weeks. This happened as a result of her mutant powers manifesting for the very first time. Afterwards Marie became Rogue and ran away from home.
In Canada she met the mutant Wolverine for the first time and after learning that he too was a mutant, she decided to tag along with him. The truck they were traveling in was attacked by Sabertooth, but they were quickly rescued by Storm and Cyclops and taken to Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters in Westchester County, New York.
At Xavier’s school, Rogue resumed normal teenage activities as best she could. She took classes and made friends with Bobby and John. Since much of this was still new to her, she naively thought that there was a chance that Xavier would be able to cure her, but soon learned that would never happen.
One night at the school Rogue found herself unable to sleep because she could hear Logan having a nightmare down the hall. She went to check on him and wake him up, only to have his claws go through her chest. In a matter of life and death she borrowed Logan’s healing powers and healed herself. The next day Mystique in the guise of Bobby told her that what she had done was wrong and that running away again was the only answer.
On the train however, Logan found her and promised to take care of her if she returned to the mansion with her. Rogue told him about her first boyfriend and finally agreed to give the school one last shot. Unfortunately Magneto appeared and kidnapped her. Rogue was taken to Ellis Island and forced to borrow Magneto’s powers to start up a machine that would turn all humans into mutants. She almost died that day, but was ultimately saved by Logan.
Rogue started over at Xavier’s and began dating Bobby. The relationship wasn’t a smooth one considering the fact that Rogue couldn’t touch Bobby, or anyone else for that matter, without the possibility of killing him. Despite this obstacle, Rogue struggled to be normal. Things were going alright until Stryker and his men raided the mansion. Rogue managed to escape alongside Bobby, John, and Logan. At Bobby’s house she shared her first kiss with him until her powers intervened. She was at his side when Bobby finally told his parents that he was a mutant, but the group was forced to leave with the arrival of armed police outside. Rogue had to absorb John to reign in the various out of control fires he had started in a fit of rage, adding him to the other psyches in her mind.
Rogue endured a terrifying experience on the jet when a missile blew open the end of the Blackbird and she was sucked out into the sky. She hadn’t been able to put on her seatbelt due to the fact that her hands were gloved. She was rescued by Nightcrawler and thanked him later that evening while encouraging him to snoop on the older X-Men. Rogue was less than pleased that the X-Men would be working with Magneto and Mystique and was ready to use her powers on them before Bobby intervened. She ended up staying on the jet with Bobby and John while the rest of the team went into the Alkali Lake base. John was long gone by the time Rogue decided to finally do something and fly the jet, only to practically crash land just in time to rescue the rest of the X-Men. After that she became a junior member of the team and started training in the Danger Room.
When the cure came out Rogue felt a new ray of home emerge in her life. She had been frustrated with the way things were going with Bobby, pushing him away, and then growing slightly jealous of how close he and Kitty grew. With mixed emotions Rogue ultimately decided to get the cure, even after Storm told her that nothing was wrong with Rogue. After spying Bobby and Kitty ice skating together the night following Xavier’s funeral Rogue packed her things and took off, getting something of an okay from Logan. She traveled downtown and stood in line for the cure, returning after the events on Alcatraz Island had taken place. Bobby was the first one Rogue greeted after getting the cure, and she tried to explain that she did it for herself, but months later after feeling like the odd girl out at the mansion and a little thing known as the green eyed monster Rogue and Bobby broke up and Rogue left the mansion.
She returned home and opened her own place to act as an adjustment home for cured mutants. Since starting up the place several different mutants have come to stay and they formed a tight-knit family of sorts. Unfortunately it wouldn't stay that way. Months later a passerby, Deadpool, came with the disturbing news that Magneto wasn't as dead as everyone had thought. She filed the information away intent on telling Storm and Logan about it, but more bad news arrived disrupting her plans. Word eventually reached Rogue that the cure was temporary, freaking her out into wearing her old gloves again when Mickey's powers came back. Now with everyone else's powers returning and them leaving Rogue has made a difficult decision to close down her place and return to the X-Men.
Sample post: The day had been awful. First Rogue had lost Pyro downtown while out and about only to run into Carol and get in a fight with her...and not just any fight, one where her powers came back and she drained the girl. On purpose. It had been the most frightening and clearest moment of Rogue's life. In that one little moment she had learned everything about Carol and her life, the reasons the girl hated Rogue, and in the end Rogue had only tightened her grip on the blonde's neck, intent on killing her.
Then she had gone limp in Rogue's hand and a fog seemed to have been lifted. It was a horrible realization to know that she had been trying to kill someone after so many years training with the X-men and following the rules. And rather than stick around and deal with her consequences Rogue had run away as fast as she could from the scene of the crime.
For the rest of the day she had been wandering around town in a haze, knocking people down, getting hit by a couple of bicyclists and not even feeling a thing...and occasionally she would find herself floating in mid air. For four hours Rogue couldn't remember who she was. Was she Carol, or was she Marie? Eventually the feeling had gone away leaving her with a dull headache...and regret.
How could she have let her anger take a hold of her like that? It wasn't like Rogue to be so cruel and senseless. But after much thinking Rogue had come to one conclusion. She was tired. Tired of being an X-Man. Tired of doing what was right. While the X-Men had fought against the cure three years ago Rogue had turned her back on them to become human. Then the cure had failed...and Rogue had never admitted to herself the pain she had gone through upon her powers returning to her.
For the last three years sitting in the lab she had tried to convince herself that her powers were nothing to be ashamed of. That she should accept herself for who she was...and until today she hadn't been ready to do that. But now...now she was more than ready to accept it, she was ready to change completely.
The Professor had never helped her learn to control her powers, and the southerner could still remember hearing the rumors that he had tried to block Jean off from her own powers because she had been too dangerous. If the Professor had been able to do that, why couldn't he have helped Rogue too by blocking off her own powers?
Rogue sighed as she walked through the mansion and up the stairs towards the second floor. Unanswered questions were not things she took lightly. As she moved past her bedroom door Rogue knew that things would never be the same again. She had Nate to think of and the only one offering to help her take care of him was Magneto. She had heard the complaints around the mansion from the other students. They didn't like having Nate around, and Carol had only cemented that feeling in Rogue.
If they didn't want Nate around then they didn't want her either, and Rogue wasn't going to stick around to deal with the stares and whispers anymore. She had done that once, she refused to do it again.
Taking a deep breath Rogue approached a single door and hesitated before finally knocking. She had to talk to Bobby before she left. She was going to leave. She had too. She had almost killed someone today, and that wasn't something Storm would take very lightly.
Rogue knocked on the door and then pushed it open to step inside. "Bobby? Cahn we talk?"
