Name: Angelo Espinosa
Codename: Skin
Affiliation: X-Men
Age: 18
Height: 5’7”
Weight: 110 lbs
Hair Color: Dark brown
Eye Color: Brown
Appearance:
Most noticeable about Angelo Espinosa is the color of his skin: gray. Other than that, he doesn’t normally stand out. As long as he concentrates, he has the regular appearance of a young slender man in good physical condition with his hair hanging around his thin face.
While he's hanging around the mansion, Angelo usually dresses in a white T-shirt and jeans. In public, however, he wears a hooded sweatshirt in order to hide his appearance from the public. He is rarely found without his crucifix around his neck, the only outward sign of his religion.
Powers and Abilities:
As his codename would suggest, Angelo has six feet of extra skin at any given time, allowing him dermal flexibility and manipulation. He can use this extra skin in a variety of ways, from simply stretching it to allow him longer reach to changing his physical appearance. Angelo’s skin is extremely durable, preventing it from ripping or tearing as it stretches farther and farther; it is strong enough to smash through a car’s windshield of support the weight of two additional people. This also provides him with some resistance to physical damage. The muscles in the sub-dermal layers of his arms and legs are advanced, allowing for control of the skin as he uses it, though they provide him with no extra strength. His skeletal structure is the same as a normal human’s, so as the skin stretches farther from his body, it becomes extremely flexible and able to wrap itself around things. By manipulating the skin on his face, he can take on a different appearance, giving him the perfect disguise; while his skin is normally gray, he has limited control over the pigment in his skin and can change use that ability to change the color of his outer dermal layer.
Angelo is adept in the use of firearms and has advanced skills as a hacker. He has practical experience hotwiring cars, and is an extremely good (if fast) driver. He is also a fairly good cook and has mastered the art of Space Invaders.
Weaknesses:
Angelo’s abilities take an extreme amount of concentration just to keep his skin compressed around his body to appear physically normal. Different abilities are more straining for him: simply stretching his skin is fairly simple, while changing the color is extremely taxing (and can only be maintained for a short time). Extended use of his abilities causes him extremely painful headaches, upon which his concentration slips and his skin takes on the appearance of a melted candle.
Angelo is also addicted to cigarettes.
Personality:
Growing up in the Barrio, Angelo learned to fend for himself both physically and mentally. He possesses a biting, dry wit and is overtly pessimistic (which he sees as realism), viewing his mutation as a curse due to the horrible physical appearance and intense concentration required. While he was a member of a gang, did so in order to survive, finding senseless violence completely tasteless. He is extremely secretive about his past, ashamed of his actions.
While there is very little evidence of it, Angelo is a devout Catholic, and was even a member of his local youth organization while he was in LA. A ladies’ man and a smooth talker, he has the ability to talk his way out of nearly any situation.
While on the outside Angelo is entirely about self-preservation, internally he is chivalrous and compassionate. While he is aware of his physical limitations, and is rarely the first to join a battle, he will take up arms against an opponent stronger than him in order to give his friends a chance to survive.
And then he’ll complain about it for weeks.
History:
Angelo was born to Eduardo and Estella Espinosa and grew up in the Barrio in South Central Los Angeles. While he was still young he saw his father gunned down in a drive-by shooting; with violence forced on him at such a malleable age, he joined a local gang in order to survive.
Despite the development of his mutation, he began a relationship with a fellow gang member, Tores. It ended abruptly, however, with an especially violent shoot-out against a rival gang. While both Angelo and Tores survived, Angelo decided that he was through with the gang life and faked his own death both to escape from the police and from the violent life he had lived; he only revealed his plan to his cousin Gilberto.
Leaving LA, Angelo planned to make his way to where he could meet up with the Brotherhood, seeing them as his best opportunity for survival in the new world. He had moved halfway across the country, however, when the battle happened in Baltimore. He was sitting in the back corner of a small diner when an emergency report appeared on TV and Angelo watched in horror as the Brotherhood turned on the crowds of people. It was then that he learned of the X-Men and decided to make his way there instead, deciding that the Brotherhood was a little too much like the life he had just left behind.
