Name: Japheth
Codename(s): Maggott
Affiliation: X-Men
Age: 18
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 250lbs
Hair Color: White
Eye Color: Brown
Appearance:
A tall, lanky African, Maggott prides himself on his appearance. He’s very attractive and keeps his face and head clean-shaven. He accentuates his features with dark prescription sunglasses and a tuft of white hair. He loves to dress snappily, and favors white suits.
After his slugs feed him, his skin turns a sky-blue, which wears off with time.
Personality:
Amiable to a fault, Maggott can get under people’s skin with his constant friendliness. Girls often find this charming, while boys believe he’s just a player – in actuality, he’s never been with any women, as he finds his own powers to be disturbing and a bit disgusting, and he’s sure they will as well. He’s rarely seen without his shirt on, and never partakes in social meals, due to his true method of eating.
Due to his past, and steadfast beliefs, Maggott isn’t afraid to “mix things up”. Were he to be confronted with Magneto or the Brotherhood, he would
Powers and Abilities:
- Maggott’s digestive organs are completely replaced by two large mechanized-looking slugs, Eany and Meany. While they look like robots, the slugs are in fact biological, and a very important past of Maggott's anatomy. These slugs can eat and digest anything at all, and are very tough in their own right. Their armored hides and mandibles are capable of making short work of anyone who threatens them. Though Eany and Meany do not always follow his orders to the letter (as they have their own limited sentience), he has learned to use them to devastating effects.
- When returning into Maggott, the slugs infuse him with the nourishment of all that they have devoured while away from him. This energy allows Maggott an amount of super-strength and agility while the slugs are inside of him.
- Psychometric power which allows him to pull forth a psychic imprint of his surroundings and replay past events in his mind. Maggott must touch an item in the area and concentrate his thoughts towards a specific point in time, he can't simply jump into a room and know everything that happened. Even his slugs become incapacitated while he is "in the past" – they often curl up at his feet. Maggott calls this power “eavesdropping”.
Weaknesses:
- Completely reliant on his slugs for nourishment. If they go too long from replenishing him, he will begin to starve – eating the “normal” way provides no nutritional value to him.
- The process of the slugs entering or exiting Maggott’s body is extremely painful, as they actually chew through his stomach to free themselves. This act causes Maggott so much pain that it completely incapacitates him while it’s occurring, especially when the slugs return, though he rapidly heals from the wound. (The enhanced healing only applies to the wounds the slugs afflict on his stomach, he does not heal any faster from other wounds.) He must go through this process about five times a day.
History:
Japheth was born to a family of four other boys in Northwest Transvaal, South Africa. His family’s home was little more than a hut and with his parents, and five children, it was cramped and the family struggled to survive. Japheth’s father worked in the gold mines to support his family, but when Japheth developed an abnormally large stomach, the family’s medical bills soared. Doctors diagnosed him with stomach cancer, despite lacking sophisticated medical equipment. Japheth required a special liquid diet, just to stay alive, and it’s cost drained the family of what little wealth they had.
One night, young Japheth overheard his mother praying to God. She asked God to take Japheth’s life, ending his pain as well as that of the family. Japheth realized that he was a terrible drain on his family, as the majority of their money was going towards his illness, leaving little for the rest of the already poor family.
The next morning, Japheth decided to answer his mother’s prayers himself and stole the family Jeep, driving it deep into the Kalahari, until it ran out of gas. He knew he would soon starve to death, but suddenly his youngest brother appeared from within the Jeep. He had stowed away, looking to go on an adventure with his older sibling. Japheth realized he had now condemned his brother to a fate worse than the one he had been burdened with before, and he despaired as the younger boy played about.
Just when Japheth was ready to completely give up, a man appeared in the desert. Dressed in crimson with a dark helmet shrouding his face, he looked to the two brothers like the Devil.
The man told them he was Magneto and that he alone could save them. With a touch of his hand, he assuaged Japheth’s pain, his bulbous stomach ceasing to rumble and toil. Without warning, a hole ripped open just above his navel, and out spilled two giant metallic slugs, with three glowing red eyes and frightening looking teeth. Japheth panicked as they erupted from within him, fearing this was a whole new, and much worse, death than before. Unexpectedly, the hole they created sealed up after their exit, and the slugs wrapped themselves protectively around the young boy’s small body.
Magneto spent the night with the boys, keeping them safe and teaching the naïve Japheth about his birthright as Homo Superior. Japheth didn’t mind nor understand most of what Magneto said, but he did know one thing – the new slugs made him feel better than ever before. When they ate and returned to him, he grew strong (though his skin turned blue as a strange side effect).
In the morning, Magneto returned the boys to their home, only to find out that rebels had attacked their village in the night, killing Japheth’s eldest brother, Lot. Their father had followed the rebels to a nearby village, taking a rifle in order to get revenge. Magneto urged Japheth to accompany him and use his newfound powers to assist his father. Japheth complied, and the two of them tracked Japheth’s dad to where he had confronted the rebel fighters. The men fired upon Japheth, his father, and Magneto, but the master of magnetism stopped their bullets in midair, then turned them on the rebels, killing them all.
While Japheth condemned Magneto’s actions, saying there was a peaceful way to stop the rebels, his father and the villagers applauded the older mutant. Magneto extended an offer to join his Brotherhood, but Japheth quickly refused. Magneto grew angry, and almost attacked Japheth himself. He chalked up the boy’s refusal to his innocence and naïveté, saying he forgave him……this time.
Japheth was soon after shunned by his own family, his powers frightening them. No longer the sickly boy he once was, Japheth made his way out to Pretoria, South Africa. Desperate for money, he began a period of indentured servitude for a local crime lord. This man first gave Japheth the nickname “Maggott”, and Japheth, wishing to distance himself from his past, accepted the name and began to use it exclusively.
Maggott felt that working for the criminal was, hopefully, just the means to an end. He turned Magneto down because that was a matter of allying himself with someone whom he witnessed slaughter a group of men, whereas while working for the crimelord, his heart was never in it. He never swore alliegance to that man, but that's what Magneto asked of him - to join his idealogy, his cause.
During this period, Maggott gained full control of his powers, which was a necessity to survive. For a time, his actions for the crime lord coupled with the agony of his slugs’ entries and exits made him contemplate suicide. These thoughts have not completely left his mind, however, and in private Maggott’s thoughts often turn to the morbid.
Now eighteen, Maggott has traveled to the USA in an effort to find others like himself, mutants who wish to do right in the world, those who do not agree with the beliefs of people like Magneto.
Likes:
Girls, girls, and if possible, more girls. Social drinking. Having money and spending it. Expensive suits, clothing, cars.
Dislikes:
Terrorists and oppressive regimes. Unreasonable people.

“Graze up, luvs, there’s plenty to go around.”
Maggott kicked at a can on the ground, sending it skittering towards Meany, who quickly gobbled it up. He stood at the entrance of the Westchester County Dump, watching his girls root through the piles upon piles of garbage. Eany started to devour an old tire, while Meany was finishing off a computer monitor.
Though he was wearing a full suit with a turtleneck, the heat of the summer day bothered him little. Growing up in the Kalahari Desert, Maggott was used to intense heat. He began to lean against the old chain link fence cornering the dump, then saw the excess of rust and backed off.
Two days earlier, in the Big Apple (a name Maggott liked immensely), he had heard talk of a big fight between mutants on the west coast of the US. The more he heard, the more interested he became: he learned of “the cure”, the battle at Alcatraz, Magneto’s involvment, and most importantly, of the X-Men. Though he yearned to know more of Magneto’s whereabouts and how the battle truly went, these X-Men interested him the most. It seemed that here were mutants fighting to protect humans, even though many of those people hated them. He thought that these were mutants after his own heart.
“Girls!” he called out. The two slugs turned their glowing eyes over to him, although they continued to munch on the assorted trash. “We gotta hump it if we’re gonna make it to Salem Center by tonight!”
Meany slithered down the stack and launched herself onto Maggott’s shoulder. “Eany! Let’s move it, doll!” Eany reluctantly turned away from her meal of plastic wrappers and forks and joined Meany on his shoulder. Maggott looked around to make sure no cars were coming down the road, but none appeared on either horizon. He lifted his sweater and bared his stomach to the slugs. “Alright now, we don’t have all day.” The slugs hurled themselves at his stomach, biting and tearing into his flesh with fervor. Maggott gasped and hunched over, feeling the girls fill him up inside. He gritted his teeth as his muscle and skin knitted itself over the hole the slugs had eaten, then straightened himself and pulled his shirt down.
He blew out a quick breath and smoothed down his suit. The now blue-skinned Maggott patted his stomach and took off running down the road.
“I got the best feeling this’ll be classic, girls.”
