So, in the comics, Maddie was a clone of Jean Grey. I don't want to go quite that direction, but for now I'd like to leave her exact origins a bit more vague so that they can be played out in flashbacks. As far as everyone, including Madelyne, knows, the similarities to Jean are purely coincidental.
I know she's quite a powerful character, and I have toned her down quite a bit from what she had in the comics, but let me know if there's still issues. I decided to nix the Goblin Queen dark sorcery aspect, even though I love the name. Wish there was some way to still call her that
Name: Madelyne Jennifer Pryor aka Maddie
Codename(s): None at this time
Affiliation: Unaffiliated mutant
Age: 31
Height: 5'6
Weight: 110 lbs
Hair Color: Red
Eye Color: Green
Appearance: The most noteworthy thing about Madelyne's appearance is that she bears a striking resemblance to Jean Grey, so much so that when Jean appeared in the Senate to speak on mutant registration, her colleagues commented on it, making jokes about seperation at birth. Working in the corporate world, Maddie is usually seen in powersuits - adorned with tasteful gold and ruby jewellery - if she is wearing any, but her night-time outfits are entirely different. Think skimpily cut leather and thigh high stilletos - when she is out of the public eye, Madelyne indulges her darker and more sexual side. Not many have ever seen this side of her - it is generally a private indulgence - but those who have are usually shocked at first to see the difference between what she projects to the world and what she is in her down-time.
Personality: The similarities with Jean Grey extend beyond appearances. Though Jean was seperated from the more powerful parts of her powers, and a darker part of her psyche developed and was repressed, Madelyne never underwent this seperation and the darker aspects of her personality were never pushed back. Though she is generally affable, getting along well with anyone from whom she stands to gain something, Maddie can be a bitch. Quite a bitch - and she's not averse to using her powers to gain her knowledge that she can use to cut people down - or gain her an advantage in some way. She is sometimes unpredictable - passionate, emotional and easy to anger. Madelyne can be ruthless and manipulative, almost always working to her own agenda or for her own gain, but when she aligns herself with someone she will stick by them until their business is finished, or she has something better to begin working on.
Powers and Abilities: Again, there are similarities with Jean Grey - Maddie possesses two primary powers - telepathy and telekinesis. While Jean Grey's power was almost limitless, however, Madelyne does have limits, even if she is still quite powerful in her own right. One might question why Professor Xavier never picked up on Madelyne's presence, which will be explained, but this situation did give Madelyne an advantage over Jean - she was never limited, so she learned to control her powers more fully than Jean.
Telepathy: Madelyne can read the minds of others and communicate with them by broadcasting her thoughts. She has a 'mental cloak' which means that she cannot be detected by other telepaths or machines like Cerebro, hence why she was never recruited by Xavier. She can extend this to cover other mutants.
Telekinesis: She can move, lift and manipulate (down to a molecular level) fairly large objects; fire mental force blasts by channeling her telekinetic powers, focus her psionic energy into a protective shield; and levitate herself in order to fly at fairly high speeds.
Weaknesses: Madelyne does not possess limitless power - she does tire, with time, and there are limits to the distances over which her power works. Her personality is also a weakness - Madelyne has less control over her powers when she is emotionally charged, which can lead to her doing things that she does not mean to, or to an extent that she does not wish, or even not being able to perform usually simple tasks. Because she is not open publicly about her mutancy, Madelyne has to control herself when she is in the public eye, and keep a very close watch on those few people to whom she does reveal her powers. Madelyne isolates herself, when she could be stronger if she let herself work as part of a team.
History: [I'd like to leave out some parts of her history so that they can be negotiated and played out with others. Basically, her origins and her childhood - which is why I have left it pretty vague here. Hopefully that isn't an issue, but I can expand if need be. Let me know.]
Before her mutation emerged, Madelyne had a fairly normal childhood - growing up with loving parents, in a middle-class suburban neighbourhood, with nothing overly interesting to note. She was a happy child, although she was prone to mood swings, fits of selfishness that would end with her smirking at a crying child, always having gotten her own way. When the mutation started to develop, her behaviour grew more troubling. She never revealed her new-found powers, knowing that the other children were scared of mutants, but she used them to fuel her fun - manipulating the other students into doing what she wanted, perceiving the things that they wanted and taking them for herself, getting herself involved with boys because the other girls would be jealous, that kind of thing. She never let the other kids know that they were being manipulated, and the advantages that her powers gained her were not lost on Madelyne.
Going on to college but quickly tiring of the people there, Madelyne got herself a job working as a personal assistant for the CEO of a pharmaceuticals company. She enjoyed the work, which was easy enough - allowing her to make a decent living without too much effort. Her powers assisted her with the job - she knew how to please her boss, and when she was by herself she used them to achieve tasks more quickly. She never revealed herself, though, and bored of the job when her boss decided that he'd fallen madly in love with her and that he was going to take her away from it all.
She was working for Sony when she heard of a new project developing crime-fighting gear for a new mutant superhero who was going to be on the scene soon. It was all very hush-hush, of course, but Madelyne knew everything that was going on behind the scenes, and she decided that working for this 'Guardian' character could be interesting. It took a little bit of work on her part to arrange a meeting with him, but they soon enough she was sitting down in a cafe in Washington, handing him a resume and smiling. He had potential - she could feel him trying to use his powers on her, and she pretended to go along with some of it, but resisted the rest. That should keep him interested, at any rate. Thinking that this was one boss she wouldn't mind wanting her to run away with him, Maddie had the job the next day, and found herself living in an apartment in the same building as his.
Madelyne found herself helping out with the negotiations surrounding the Guardian television franchise, excited about the prospect. These X-Men could be mutants openly, although they seemed perched on the edge of falling from grace - if Kyle could pull off the Guardian concept, perhaps she would be able to stop hiding who she was. Tapping her long red fingernails on the table as the advertising executives squabbled over commercial breaks, she extended her mind out to all of them, disappointed to see that not a one of them was interesting enough to hold her in thrall for more than a fleeting moment. She thought back to her apartment, so empty with only her inside, and idly wondered when she would get to break in her red silk sheets. Though a small smile developed, she did not allow herself to deviate from the personality she'd so carefully cultivated to them all. Appearances could be everything.
