***This needs special approval by Ren and Ben! Heheh***
Name: Laura Kinney
Codename(s): X-23
Affiliation: X-Men
Age: 16
Height: 5”6
Weight: 110
Hair Color: Dark brown, nearly black
Eye Color: Hazel
Appearance:
X-23 is surprisingly muscular for a girl of sixteen. She has, in fact, very little fat anywhere on her body. She is mostly finished with puberty, having developed an ample chest and a slight curve to her hips. Her hair is long, falling to her shoulder blades – hair which she has never styled other than to pull back in a ponytail, and which often has the haphazard waves of having slept on it wet. Were someone to see a picture of her in which she wasn’t glaring or eerily alert, they would agree that she was a relatively attractive teenage girl. But to see her in person, the tough, almost animal-like way with which she moves masks any beauty that may be had.
She normally dresses in blacks and reds, her favorite colors. The clothes which she is given to wear are plain regardless, but she likes them to be simple. She hates skirts, and the high-heeled shoes which she sees her female teachers and doctors wear only strike X-23 with one purpose: to stab someone when they kick with those heels. And as X-23 already has means to stab people with a kick, heels are meaningless to her.
X-23 is always alert to her surroundings, and it is clear in the way she moves. The slightest sound or movement will attract her attention, and she will go stiff, or whip her head around to exactly what caught her attention. Even when she doesn’t sense anything is out of place, she moves with some caution, because she has been trained that she must always be ready. She can be perfectly silent to the unaided ear, and can easily move about unseen, making use of any and every hiding space and stealth tactic she knows.
Her resemblance to Wolverine is not blatantly obvious. Those who know his face well may feel as though she reminds them of someone, but most would not realize it was Logan that they were reminded of, though some would. But were they to see the two side by side, or were someone to tell them that she was a clone of Wolverine, the similarities would be obvious. She has the same jawline, the same shaped nose, and the same eyes and bone structure as Logan has.
She has two claws that she can cause to protrude from the back of each of her hands, and one similar claw from each foot. (see powers below)
Personality:
X-23 is normally a civil person. She is never outspoken, not because she is shy, but because she keeps to herself always. She is very taciturn, rarely saying more than five words at a time. This would be quite unnerving to most, but those at Sombra have learned to take it in stride. She is almost always serious – though that may indeed be a mask. No one knows what truly goes on in X-23’s mind, and no one who has known her so far has really wanted to know.
Thus far, no one has ever seemed to have an effect on X-23. She hasn’t shown any signs of developing emotional attachment to anyone. She is polite, and can be kind – but she does it because it is expected. To her, it is empty formalities. Emotion does not exist, it must not exist – the times when it has shown through when no one has been around to stomp it out of her, she has forced it out of herself. The only acceptable emotion is anger. She will maim and kill without hesitance or second thoughts when told to, or when she feels the need to. Family, friends, love and caring...these are words that X-23 knows by definition, but has never known personally or emotionally. And she doesn’t wonder why – those things are weaknesses. She doesn’t allow weakness. She is exact, she is final.
She has essentially been brain-washed, all the while being molded to think that nothing was out of place with her life. She has never asked to leave Sombra, and so she doesn’t feel trapped. She feels in control of her situation, which she is in no way in control of.
Powers and Abilities:
X-23 has the ability to regenerate injured or severed areas of her cellular structure at a very accelerated speed – to put it simply, she has a healing factor much like Wolverine’s (surprise, surprise). The speed of her healing depends on the severity of the injury – while it only takes a few moments for a small cut to heal, if she were shot in the heart it would take her about thirty seconds to heal the wound. Her natural healing gives her near-immunity to poisons and most drugs – when it is necessary that she take some kind of medication, they must give it to her in large doses, or use alternative medications usually too strong and dangerous for other people. She has enhanced resistance to diseases and fatigue. Because it takes much more to tire her out, she remains at top endurance, agility, and reflexes, in prolonged battles, gaining an upper hand on her opponents.
She has heightened senses, which allows her to see and hear and smell at an extended distance. It is virtually impossible to hide from her; unless one can be perfectly – and I use that in a literal sense – perfectly silent, and perfectly still. Even then, one cannot be perfectly scentless.
Those are her natural-born powers. She had adamantium claws surgically grafted to her bones as a child; two in each hand and one in each foot. These can be forced in and out by muscle movement, and tear the skin and muscle of her arms and hands each time, but those wounds heal quickly. The adamantium can cut through almost any material.
X-23 has been trained since a very young age, and is by age sixteen extremely skilled at armed and unarmed martial arts (though she opts for a more frenzied, almost street-fighting style when allowed). She has received intensive training in ranged weapons and explosives as well. Her stealth techniques are formidable; she can move as silent as is possible given whatever she is walking on and whatever she is wearing.
Weaknesses:
Injuries that cause loss or failing of vital organs, large amounts of blood loss, and loss of limbs are potentially lethal. Her body will do what it can, but for instance, if her leg is cut off, she cannot form a new leg. She can form a stump – but even this would take a few minutes. It takes much longer to mend bone than it does to mend tissue and sinew. X-23’s body is more fragile than Wolverine’s, because her skeleton is not coated with adamantium, and does not have as muscular a build.
X-23 feels pain as much as any other person does. She feels every injury, but not for as long, as it heals more quickly. She is simply used to more pain, so the amount of pain which she can tolerate mentally is higher than other people’s.
History:
After the escape of the first "Weapon X", Wolverine, William Stryker was determined to continue his experiments. Unable to find another mutant with a healing power who was right for the experiments, Stryker decided that a clone must be made of Wolverine. He took the matter to Dr. Nathaniel Essex, and though Essex was a genius geneticist, the experiment failed twenty-two times, because the genetic sample, the only one that they had of Wolverine, was damaged, and they were unable to salvage the Y chromosome time and time again. Each failure was more horrific than the last.
A doctor affiliated with the Weapon X program named Sarah Kinney suggested that they simply use the X-Chromosome, which would create a female clone. The program was hesitant at first, but ultimately agreed, having little choice. However, they needed a woman to play the role of surrogate mother. Sarah volunteered and carried Dr. Essex’s female creation for nine months.
The birth was a success, and Weapon X saw to it that she begin her training right away. They immediately cut off ties with her mother; as soon as it was safe to separate the two, X-23 never saw her mother’s face again.
The X-23 project was proving successful, and at an early age, X-23 was highly trained in combat, able to fight and beat men two to three times her size and strength. Laura was taught to have no emotions and to maim and kill without hesitance or second thoughts when told to. In order do this, she wasn’t allowed to indulge in natural childhood things such as playing pretend, playing dolls, or reading stories. She had almost no companions and was under observation her entire life. She spent most of her time training to hone her skills. Family, friends, love and caring...these were words that X-23 knew by definition, but never personally or emotionally. She rarely felt emotion, and when she did, it was usually slight. This made her a viscous, relentless fighter.
At age six, Stryker saw to it that her mutation was triggered by the use of radiation, and her healing factor came to be. In a cruel experiment, adamantium claws were put into her body, two on each hand and two on each foot, which could be retracted by simple muscle movement.
She spent her entire life at Alkali Lake, never venturing outside the empty vast areas of forest surrounding Sombra Corp. She was taught, though not to the extent of most children – she was taught little of history other than what could be learned from wars and mass murders. They didn’t want her to wonder about what was beyond what she could see. The Weapon X Program planned to begin to use her more actively when she turned eighteen, though exactly what they planned to use her for was never so much as hinted to anywhere remotely near her, so that her ultra-keen ears wouldn’t hear their plans for her.
X-23 was able to escape the destruction of Alkali Lake thanks to her regenrative powers, and literally clawed her way above ground. During the cleanup that followed, agents for Sombra found X-23 living in the woods nearby. They persuaded her to join Sombra. She has been there for about a year. Sombra taught her how to communicate, but she was resistant to learning, and she never willingly used her language skills. Again, she rarely said a full sentence at once. They gained her trust, though it was emotionless trust, and she allowed them to study her and integrate her.
