Rayen turned the banged up little Nissan off, feeling the cycle of shared current slow within her body. Cars always made her nervous. She'd become used to, even fond of the feeling of constantly circulating electrical energy through a vehicle; she liked to think she understood the concept of being one with the driving experience a bit better than most. But there was still that fear of becoming too like the machine. She was still having dreams of her veins slowly replacing themselves with copper wire.
The mansion waited a bit up the hill. Rayen nabbed the business card off the dash, looking it over yet again. The edges were worn, the clean black paper split and faded to a dull gray. She wondered if Xavier was still here, if he ever existed at all. It had been so many years since she'd heard his voice.
Stepping out, rayen noted the near-dark of the sky, thinking to herself that the grounds must be quite attractive during the day. Yet she was glad for the cover of night, not feeling as exposed, even if surely there were mutants or their devices watching every square inch of the compound.
Her hiking boots took the driveway walk easily, as she pulled a cigarette free from its pack and lit it. Her dark eyes slipped over every surface, still on guard. She wasn't entirely convinced she should be here, or rather, that this was where she belonged. But there was no other road, no other direction in which to walk. She'd found all she could within herself. Now it was time to find her people.
But were they here?
In the right crowd, she was Conduit, and so she would be here. Conduit took a long drag and let the ash fall to the ground, standing yards away from the front doors but in no hurry to walk through them. Mosaneh had always said, she was more a wolf than a raven. A wolf Thunderbird had chosen.
Well she wasn't sure about all of that. All the native stuff was okay on the reservation, but she had to live in a world of steel and asphalt now.
With a sigh she took another drag, her feet growing more comfortable right where they were.

[OOC: Oh man, I'm so confused on timelines, haha.
If this is the same day, at dusk, you're arriving right at the beginning of dinner, which is when Forge is arriving too. We're currently playing about an hour later than that, just so you know, and so if you want to meet anyone like Storm or Forge who has already played the part of the day you're writing about here, you'd have to come in later on. ; )
Does that make any sense? *lol* This stuff can get muddled.]

There was a puff of acrid smoke off to one side of the drive as Kurt materialized crouched on the limb of a tree. He watched the young woman, shaking his head as she took a pull on her cigarette, but decided that she wasn't threatening the mansion, so he dropped down to the ground and stepped out of the shadows. "Guten Abend, Fräulein. Can I help you with something?"

Conduit turned her head to take in the strange creature, offering a hint of a smile as she put the cigarette out and slipped the butt into her pocket.
"Possibly." She looked at the house a moment. While she seemed confident and centered in herself, there was no doubt she was hesitant about something.
"Professor Xavier. Is... he here?" Conduit looked back to him. It's likely the tone in her voice indicated she knew what had been happening these last few months, but in reality, she was only unsure she wouldn't sound like a fool.

Kurt's shoulder's slumped slightly and he suddenly wished for his long coat, having forgotten it in his office. "I'm afraid that the Professor has passed away," he said sadly. "Ms. Munroe is the headmistress now."
Taking a deep breath, he smiled warmly and stepped forward, offering a three-fingered hand. "Still, we are still Xavier's School, and you are most welcome here. My name is Kurt Wagner."

Her mouth dropped open a bit, though it was a muted sort of shock. It was apparent she didn't know Xavier personally.
But she nodded sympathetically as she shook his hand, looking him in the eye. "I'm sorry to hear that, Mr. Vagner."
"He invited me here a very long time ago, when I was a kid. I didn't take him up on it, but..." She cleared her throat, running her fingers over the cigarette pack in her back pocket. "Oh, I'm sorry," she laughed, blushing. "My name's Rayen. Conduit, really. Kind of depends on which you prefer." She smiles a bit.

Kurt smiled sadly and turned toward the mansion at the end of the path. "What has happened, has happened."
Nodding understandingly, Kurt motioned for them to walk up the drive. "I am glad that you have decided to join us here at the Institute, Miss Rayen. We are still carrying on the good Professor's work... with success, I might add. And while you seem to be a bit old to be a student..." His yellow eyes looked at her carefully. "I'm sure you can find your place here. Ms. Munroe will want to hear of your arrival immediately."

He was so kind. And there was a delicate quality to his demeanor that made her want to smile when he spoke.
She looked at the house with a determined expression as he began moving up the drive. Conduit shadowed him, drawing an invisible thread between his center and hers to tether herself by. It was the only way she was going to get her feet to move to the door.
What was her fear?
"To be honest, I don't know that there's anything I need to learn." Her eyes flickered to the door again. "Or find." She shook the thought away. "I've never... spoken to anyone like us before. That's the most of it. And Xavier reached out to me when I badly needed someone. So I thought... his allies would surely do the same. What sort of things do... the students learn here?"

Kurt smiled back at her, continuting to walk towards the door. "If there's one thing I have found, it is that there is always more to learn." He arched an eyebrow as he noticed the distance between them, motioning slightly for her to catch up. "Even with the founder gone, this house is still open to anyone who needs our help."
At the mention of the students, Kurt's mind slipped back to the stacks of books on his desk waiting to be read. "We teach all manner of subjects here. Sciences, English, math... I'm even starting a few theology courses soon. All of this is on top of training with their mutant abilities and learning to cooperate with society. We try to teach our students to live, not just to know."

"Cooperate with society." She smiles hesitantly. "I'm sorry but that sounds pretty impossible for..." she looks at him awkwardly, moving to step in time beside him. "Well, for some of us."

Kurt smiled and let his tail loop up to rest on her shoulder. "I said cooperate with society, not fit in. It is true that some of us will never fit in with humans. But I believe we should try." He smiles warmly at her and glances up at the double doors leading to the mansion. "Welcome, Miss Rayen, to Xavier's Institue." With that he walked up to the door and pushed it open, motioning for her to step inside.

She hoped Kurt had been hired in some capacity as the welcome wagon, because he certainly did wonders to put her at ease. She stepped past him, murmuring a thank you as her shoe hit the foyer floor.
Her eyes drifted up to the ceiling as she took a few more steps inside, getting a sense of her surroundings. She inhaled it's scent, looked down a hallway moving only her eyes, then very carefully extended her senses to the electrical structure of the house. Just before she felt the current draw towards her, she pulled back, not allowing so much as a lamp to flicker. There didn't seem to be anything she needed to be wary of, at least in this part of the building.
Conduit half turned to look at Kurt, smiling at him. "Would you mind introducing me to this Miss Munroe?"

Kurt stepped in behind her and shut the door quietly, his tail looping past his legs unconsciously as it moved out of the way of the door. Turning back to glance at the young woman, Kurt watched as she seemed to focus, though he couldn't tell on what as he moved to her side.
He smiled as her eyes fell on him again and he began to walk further into the mansion. "If we can find her, I will be more than willing to introduce you. She has much to do, but we'll do out best." With that, he set off towards the section of the building with the offices, hoping to catch Ororo after her meeting with Bobby.
