The following character groups or affiliations are currently present in Panacea. If you have a suggestion (and an appropriate number of people/characters interested) for a new group/affiliation, please contact me.
Mutants: This group is split into two convenient groups - the "good" guys (X-men) and the "bad" guys (Brotherhood).
X-Men: Lead by Storm, Xavier Mansion.
The X-men have become somewhat hero-celebrities since helping destroy the Brotherhood and dispatch Magneto. Natural humans have learned not to fear the men and women wearing the X-marked uniforms, and many younger naturals are disposed to ask for autographs. For this reason the X-men still hide from naturals, but it has gone a long way in helping to erase the negative stigmata surrounding the "mutant phenomenon". The mansion is always overflowing with new mutants, both runaways and registered students. (magic word one: chicken-flavored toothpaste)
Brotherhood: Lead by Pyro, Genosha.
After the loss of their former leader, Magneto, and most of their "foot soldiers", the pathetic remains of the Brotherhood have returned to Genosha to hide and rebuilt their ranks. They have been taken over by the childish and impulsive Pyro, and many feel he cannot live up to the task left by the former leader. However, there are always disillusioned, persecuted mutants, so the Brotherhood is guaranteed new membership as long as look in the right places.
Humans: This group is split into two sub-groups, the "natural" humans and the "restored" humans.
Restored Humans:
Some mutants who were (and still are) "cured" of their mutantcy had found a safe haven at Rogue's Place. Whether they chose to be cured, or were cured by Worthington's weapons, they were all welcome to her home in order to find their new way in the world, as Homo sapiens.
Then, the Cure began to wear off - it didn't all happen in one day, but rather, over months the number of Cured mutants becoming un-Cured grew and grew. Slowly, the scientific community declared that the Cure was not permanent as it had been thought to be. Though it is still intact for some Cured mutants, it has worn off or is wearing off of most.
Natural Humans: Lead by various, worldwide.
"Natural" is the new term for Homo sapiens - those who have always been naturally un-mutated humans. There are still many naturals who fear and hate mutants of all kinds, and see themselves as superior to the restored humans. But there are always bleeding hearts who accept all people as humans, no matter what. Still, most humans in power are naturals, and therefore making the rules. They are trying to find a balance between the demands of all groups.
Mockants: Lead by Magneto, El Dorado
A newly coined term; "mockants" refers to the unnatural mutants that have begun to sprout up in South America. They are humans that have been turned into mutants through Magneto's experimentation. So far, all mockants are poor citizens of Guyana who were willing to go through the potentially lethal experiment for a small amount of cash. The surviving mockants have found themselves with not only cash, but also super powers that they can't always control. Most of them die shortly after discovering their new powers.
