If we cannot learn to live together, we will surely die apart
Charles Francis Xavier
They are children of the atom -- homo superior -- individuals whose genetic structures have given them amazing powers. Created by Professor Charles Xavier, the X-Men have been trained to use their incredible abilities for the betterment of mankind. Their ultimate goal: to bridge the growing enmity between humanity and mutantkind in a world that fears and hates them.
The world is facing a new threat. Humanity is evolving. A new race of human beings are emerging: homo sapiens superior, better known as mutants. These mutants are gifted (or cursed) with incredible abilities. Their mere existance threatens to unseat humanity at the top of the food chain. America has decided to take action, and has unleashed a fleet of mutant-hunting robots known as Sentinels. These Sentinels seek out and eliminate anyone with the X-Gene.
In reponse to this threat, Professor Charles Xavier, the most powerful telepath on earth, gathers a team of inexperienced young mutants to fight for homo superior and teach the world that humans and mutants can live in peace. Scott (Cyclops) Summers, Jean (Marvel Girl) Grey, Henry (Beast) McCoy, Ororo (Storm) Monroe, and Piotr (Colossus) Rasputin have been brought together to form the X-Men. Using the psychic amplifier Cerebro, Xavier has located several new, young mutants and have added them to his team of X-Men.
Comic book continuity ends with Issue #15, with Xavier beginning his promotional tour across the world. The first stop is London and he's brought his X-Men and the new recruits along. Note: if you apply for a character that was not featured in the comics up to this point, feel free to apply for them as one of the many new recruits joining him.
