The events of Alcatraz Island happened 3 months ago. The Institute still reeling from the loss of Xavier, Jean and Cyclops have tried to continue as regular as normal. Their new recruits Leech and Angel have had trouble settling in. Leech projecting his power distortion frightens the other students; Angel has been treated as an outcast as his father was the one who developed the “cure”. Bobby is devastated as Rouge left the Institute when she left the institute after Bobby rejected her. Storm is under constant pressure but is holding firm and putting on a brave face.
The Brotherhood or the remains of it are recuperating. They suffered huge losses after Alcatraz. Callisto, Jean, Juggernaut, Quill, Arclight and all the others were killed but some survived. Pyro saved by Bobby after their fight, Psylocke teleporting away before the disintegration wave destroyed her and finally Magneto who discovered his powers coming back stronger now then ever. Multiple Man currently held by the government on trial for his crimes and Mystique is currently working with the government, her powers still not having been regained.
The “cure” as it was called was only short term like Leech’s influence. Magnetos was overdosed with the serum and his body built an immunity to it reversing its effects faster than others. It is only a matter of days before its effects are reversed and the mutants who were dosed with it have their powers back, stronger than ever.
As far Xavier he currently resides on Muir Island in a new body and under the care of his ex-wife Moira MacTaggert. Muir Island is a second institute for less socially acceptable mutants, who hopefully would one day join the X-Men. Amongst these mutants is Proteus. A dangerous reality warper who is Moira MacTaggert’s son.
Weapon X, the creation of William Stryker has reformed after the events of Alkali Lake. They have launched the back up plan to destroy mutants after Stryker’s last plan failed. The plan known Project Wideawake is to form a fleet of mutant attacking robots known as Sentinels. They also have started an initiative to recapture the original Weapon X, Wolverine.
Finally, a high ranking club known as The Hellfire Club have become involved in mutant affairs. They desire is to accumulate power through any means necessary. Their plans as of yet are unknown but they have been keeping a close eye on the X-Men and Muir Island.
