(Another rpg I'm in! It's relatively new, but I was in another rpg by the same mods and they're good. It's fun, and lots of Brotherhood positions are still open at the time I'm posting this, including Magneto, Pyro, and Juggernaut! It has about thirty characters so far but barely any Brotherhood. I'll advertise Panacea on there, of course.)
Rise Above
It's been a rough ride for the X-Men after the death of three crucial and beloved members. Professor Xavier was a victim of the Phoenix, having been telepathically overpowered and dissipated at the molecular level. Jean Grey died at the Adamantium claws of the Wolverine. Scott Summers was thought to have perished under the Phoenix's kiss of death.
Under Ororo Munroe, Xavier's Institute is still up and running. New additions to the X-Men and to the combat training staff include Bobby Drake, Piotr Rasputin, Marie D'Ancanto, and Kitty Pryde. The Wolverine, or Logan, has become a permanent part of the school.
Once it is discovered that the Cure is wearing off, Erik Lehnsherr returns to the helm of the Brotherhood. John Allerdyce replaces Raven Darkholme as the master of magnetism's right hand. They are small in numbers, but are regaining members as they, too, discover that their X-Gene is active once again. Raven Darkholme has yet to return.
The threat to mutants is more prominent than ever. With the discovery of the failure of the initial Cure vaccination, the government has taken the project into its own hands and is currently experimenting with completely destroying the X-Gene. Thus far, all test subjects have died. With no willing volunteers, the government is capturing and forcing experiments onto innocent mutants. Their base of research is referred to as the Gideon. Once you are here, your communications with the outside world are severed. You are docile to the scientists. You are stripped of a name. Of a personality. No volunteers have ever successfully left the DNA research facility.
Unbeknownst to anybody outside of the facilities, the government has been breached and is now run by the Shi'Ar, who are for reasons unknown, bitter at the Homo superior race. They influence all branches...Including the President of the United States.
This issue catches the attention of both the Brotherhood and the X-Men. Each organization takes their own way about doing things. The Brotherhood, as usual, radically protest by taking humans and conducting horrific, unethical experiments on them that ultimately lead to death. They then hang the outcome on streetsigns and streetlights all around New York.
Due to the Brotherhood's actions, all mutants are heavily persecuted. Some are shot on sight. Some are attacked by mobs of enraged people. Some are captured for experimentaion.
Sentinals later appear on the scene. They are machines bent solely on eliminating mutant-kind. Nobody with an active X-gene is safe on the streets.
All has gone to Hell in New York.
We are in dire need of some of the radical mutant protestors...
