Bobby's parents were watching over him when he opened his eyes. In the hour that followed was the most heart-felt and personal talk that the Drake family had ever had. William and Madeline apologized first thing, and though it was what Bobby had been dreaming of hearing for a year, he voiced his anger and hurt to them in response. Bobby firmly told them that he would always be a mutant, and that they would be the ones to change, not he.
When everything was laid out on the table, Bobby Drake and his parents began to work towards healing the gaping wounds in their family. They caught up on everything that had happened in each other's lives since last speaking (Ronnie had been accepted at Rutgers, Dad had been laid off and found another job, and Mr. Chuckles had recently had kittens, among other things).
Bobby knew that he had missed a lot of post-Baltimore information, and though he missed his parents, he was desperately eager to find out if all of his friends had survived Baltimore in one piece--and how the mission had gone. He didn't dwell a lot of the details of what had happened, even finding himself unable to remember much of the battle, and he pushed it from his mind in order to focus on his family issues.
Hours after waking up, Bobby left his room with his parents. He had convinced them to go home, as both parents had work the next day, only persuading them by promising to call them that night, and the following morning, and twice a day until the next weekend, when he and Ronnie would both visit them at home. His parents shied away from the topic of Bobby's brother, and Bobby had the feeling that he wasn't as warmed up to Bobby as their parents were. But even William and Madeline still feared mutants, and felt that being an X-Man was unsafe. But they loved Bobby, and finally, after a year of silence, treated him as their son again.
“Let me show you around,” he offered them as they walked down the hallway of the boy’s dorms. They had toured it years before, when considering enrolling Bobby, but had rarely visited since—to avoid exposing the school’s true nature, most of the time the students went home rather than families visiting the students at the school.
Bobby led them across the landing toward the girl’s dorms, explaining that there was one place he had to stop by first. He stopped in front of the room which had once been Rogue’s and Kitty’s room and was now inhabited by Kitty and the adorable young Hannah. Bobby wasn’t sure how much Hannah had been told—he didn’t know how serious any of the X-Men and students had been told his condition was--but he wanted Hannah to know that he was okay.
He knocked on the door and lowered his hand, waiting hopefully for either girl to open the door, as his parents stood a good five feet back warily.
