Jubilee muttered angrily under her breath all the way up the stairs and down the hall. She realized that she didn't have a room anymore, but if her bed was taken she was still going to be severely twerked.
She saw Miss Thang from the scuffle downstairs walking ahead of her, and as she watched the girl stopped in front of what had been Jubes' door. Jubilee heaved a sigh, but kept walking towards it. "Hey, Hayseed!" she called to the blonde as she neared her, "Nice line back there."
Jubes came to a stop, eyeing Paige with mild curiousity. "So, you're Bobby's new squeeze, huh? God help you," she said, flashing a smile to show she was joking.
Paige smirked. "Yeah." She promptly dropped the southern accent- as best she could anyway. "And thanks, I think I might need it."
Frowning with a bit of a smile, she turned in the doorway. "You know Bobby from somewhere huh? I haven't seen you around before."
Jubes nodded nonchalantly, confirming the girl's suspicions. "Yeah, I left 'bout six months ago. Went here for two an' a half years before that. In fact, looks like they gave you my room," she added, tilting her head toward the door.
"You wouldn't happen to be roomin' solo, wouldja?"
Paige looked back into the room.
"Actually..." she hesitated, then looked back at the girl. "Actually yeah, I am. Guess you get your old room back, huh." She smiled. It would be nice to actually know someone around here other than Bobby.
"Come on in." She chuckled, and went and sat on her bed. She hadn't been there long, her bag still half unpacked. Bobby's picture from Teen People was framed on her nightstand.
"So where are you from?"
"Lived in Bev Hills till I was fourteen, then came here...Then just went to live with my aunt in L.A. So pretty much No. Cal. my whole life." Jubilee was pleased to see her bed was the one still open, and she kicked off her shoes and flopped down on the bare bed as if she'd never left, looking at Paige.
"So lemme guess--Virginia? Alabama?" Paige's accent, though more subtle now, had been obvious in her yelling spree downstairs. “Bobby must have a thing for chicks with accents,” Jubes mused aloud. Before she pictured him being shoved into that black car. Stupid frickin' FEDs.
Paige muttered "Kentucky..." and regretted her little speech now for a wholly new reason.
When Jubilee mentioned the accent, Paige's blue eyes snapped up. It couldn't be her she was talking about, she didn't have an accent at all.
"What do you mean?"
Jubes eyed Paige closely, wondering if she was the kind of girl who’d get in a huff hearing about a boyfriend’s exes. Jubes had never understood that—After all, it was way selfish to think that she was the first chick in a guy’s life. Besides, that would make for a bad kisser. She’d rather they come to her experienced. But some girls were just weird like that.
“Well, his last girlfriend was from Mississippi. She had a mega-accent though,” Jubes informed her.
Paige frowned a bit. "Why did she leave?" Tucking her feet under her on the bed, she curled her arms around herself.
"Well, this is a school for mutants, innit?" Jubilee pointed out with another shrug. Paige could have rightfully asked Jubes the same question; and Jubilee's answer would have seemed pretty hypocritical in that case.
"Guess she felt left out, since she couldn't very well hang with the Big X-Boys anymore. Now, if that was me, Id've thought about that. But anyway, I don't know where she went. Bobby doesn't either. He told me he's pretty sure Ororo and some others know, but their lips are sealed. Which doesn't surprise me. But it sucks."
Paiged watched her for a minute before saying anything. It was a strange situation that made Paige uncomfortable. If Rogue's mutant power was pretty useless in the first place, why was she ever made an X-Man? What was different about her once she was 'cured'?
And why didn't she stay with Bobby?
Sighing with no small amount of frustration, she laid back on her bed. "Ya know, if Bobby gets through this, he's gonna get the beating of the ages for not telling me this stuff earlier."
Earlier. It had only been what, two weeks? But still. He'd hardly looked at her as he'd been led away.
Paige closed her eyes. Like hell she was going to cry in front of this girl.
Jubilee rolled over onto her back, staring up at the ceiling. “Are you kiddin’? Bobby doesn’t talk to anyone about it unless he’s in emo mode. Plus, the goober thinks everyone blames him for Rogue high-tailin’ it after she came back Cured. You don’t need to beat him up over it; he beats himself up. He’s had a shit-n-mess life the last couple years. But I warned him bein’ an X-Buddy would do that to him. Prob’ly jinxed it.”
