Bobby set the last stuffed animal in place between it's pals, then sat back and looked at his work. The once-empty bed in Kitty's room now not only had pink sheets, comforter, and pillows, but a large pile of stuffed animals of every animal from snakes to cats.
The entire room had been transformed. The bed was covered with a pink comforter with a few of the Disney princesses on it, as well as matching pillows. There was a pink rug between the two beds, and on a wall was a large picture of a fairy tale castle in a scenic valley.
Next to Kitty's desk was a Barbie house. And beside it, a small bin full of Barbies and Barbie clothes. And on Kitty's desk was a pile of coloring books and washable markers and crayons.
Bobby stood and surveyed the room. He was proud; and because he'd managed to find the Barbie house and some of the Barbies and animals on sale, he had saved a lot of money. He crossed his arms across his chest and turned, going to the door. When he reached it, he unfolded his arms to open the door and stepped through. Turning, he looked around the room once more. A pleased smile tugged on his lips as he shut the door and started down the hall.

Phase came up the stairs, having wandered just about everywhere that wasn't locked off. She hopped up the stairs one by one, singing a song to herself. With each beat of the song, she jumped and landed on the next step.
Eenie meenie, Sicileeny, Ooh, Ah, Zambalini, Achi-Cachi Liberace, I, love, you!
Take a peach, Take a plum, Take a stick of bubble gum~ Not a peach, Not a plum, Not a stick of bubble gum!
Eenie meenie, Sicileenie-
"BOBBY!" She called as her blue eyes peeked up from the stairwell. She ran the rest of the way, stumbling on the top stair, and got back up immediately, running to him.

"BOBBY!"
Bobby had been looking out the window as he walked to the stairs, and upon hearing his name called out, he turned to look at the stairs. He saw Hannah running toward him and immediately broke into a grin. It looked like he'd be able to see her reaction after all.
"Hannie!" He called back to her as he crouched down. He looked at her with a face that was just as excited as hers was. "I have a surprise for you! C'mon, it's in your room!" He stood and reached out for her hand.

Hannah took his hand, feeling the excitement and simple joy radiating from him. It was a good feeling, and made Hannah smile widely.
Her little feet hopped, she was full of energy, apparently all the rest over the last day or so having done her good. She still looked too pale and a bit ill, but children are resilient. She bounced as they went back to the dorm room.
Stepping in the door, she gasped. A two second pause was followed by a girlish shriek.
"PINK!!!"

Bobby watched Hannah carefully as the door opened and her redone room came into sight. When she shrieked, he grinned--Partly from her infectious happiness, and partly out of relief. He wasn't sure how well he'd done, never having had any sisters to show him what little girls liked.
He followed her into the room, still watching her. "I remembered you like cats and snakes. And then there's your own Barbie house with some Barbies to go in it..." He rubbed his neck with his hand, sliding his other hand into his pocket.

Hannah ran into the room and leapt on the bed, picking up a stuffed animal and giggling.
"It's awesome! This is the best room EVER!" She gasped. "And a Barbie house! Do Iget to keep it?" She looked at him hopefully.

"Of course you do!" Bobby replied, his smile still plastered on his face. "Now it won't be so boring here."
He walked to the desk and stood beside it, glancing down before looking back to Hannah. "There's one more surprise. Close your eyes," he said, his eyes gleaming.

Hannah squeaked and covered her eyes with both hands, thin legs kicking alternately off the side of the bed.

Making sure that Hannah covered her eyes, Bobby crouched down and reached underneath the desk. He stood with his treasure and held it behind his back as he walked over to the bed. He stopped in front of Hannah and without telling her to open her eyes attacked her with the furry stuffed animal, knowing she'd open her eyes then. As he did, he made funny little animal noises that probably weren't at all what the animal truly sounded like.
It was a large white fox stuffed animal, with a blue bow around it's neck. Bobby had been delighted to have found it in his search, and had bought it no matter the price.

Hannah fell back against the bed in a torrent of giggles, pretending to fight off the fuzzy beast as it attacked her. When she realized what it was, another shriek echoed in the dorm room.
"It's a fots!" She looked thrilled, little blue eyes open wide. "An' it's fuzzy! Bobby-Bobby! Look what you got me!" She holds it up to him as if to show it off.
"Thank you..." She curled up with the fox on the bed like a friend she was prepared to nap with.

Bobby's heart melted as he watched Hannah's antics with the fox. It made all of the money he'd spent completely worth it. It would make all of the extra landscaping he would have to do to pay for his cell phone bill and any extra expenses worth it.
He laughed along with her, and when she curled up on the bed, he crouched down beside the bed. He leaned against it, his elbow on the pink Disney comforter. "Are you tired? Do you want to take a nap?" He asked kindly.

"Ebbybody's going on the plane tonight, huh." She'd heard them talking about it, having lingered outside the door after Storm shooed her. Laying on her side watching him, she relaxed into the positive emotions surrounding her.
"You're going away too."

Bobby nodded, thinking for a moment what to say. "I am, but I'll be back real soon. We're going tomorrow morning and we'll probably be back by nighttime."
After he'd said it, he wondered if that was correct. He didn't want to tell her earlier than they'd end up coming back, in case she would worry if they didn't return when he said they would. "Maybe. Unless we have to stay longer," he added to be safe.
A thought struck him, and it came out of nowhere--If he died, Hannah probably wouldn't understand what had happened. He pushed the thought aside, telling himself it was stupid to think like that, and wondering where the thought had come from.
"I'll be back before you know it, and then I'll take you to the zoo!" He said, reaching over and tickling her stomach.

She giggled softly. She could feel his worry, but preferred the happy.
Pulling a pink blanket over her, she snuggled in.
"Nap."
With that she closed her eyes, and made soft snoring sounds like Big Bird on Sesame Street.

Bobby smiled and stood, looking down on Hannah for a moment. He smoothed the blankets around her and then patted her hand, before turning and moving for the door. He opened it quietly and shut it behind him just as softly, a small smile sticking on his face from the good feeling he'd gotten from making the little girl's day a little brighter.
