Logan entered the rec room, boots clacking on the wooden floor. He had business today, and was finally feeling that sense of leadership he'd had right before Alcatraz. He was feeling again how much the school meant to him, and how he'd been neglecting it's needs.
Now he was here, trying to do the right thing. For the School and the X-Men.
He spotted the new guy, Angelo. He was in the files that Candice had shared, albeit slightly unwillingly... an interesting power. An even more interesting background.
Logan crossed over to him, leaning against the arcade machine he was playing. "Angelo Espinosa?"
Angelo's eyes flicked across the screen as the alien ships dive-bombed,
trying to take him out. But he would not be taken.
He was still having trouble believing they had a Galaga machine. Why hadn't
anyone told him?
He was taking out the last of the wave when the gruff-looking man leaned
against the side. Angelo looked at him briefly, but his brown eyes turned
back to the screen as the next wave came. "Yeah, that's me. Somethin' I
can do for you?"
Logan observed him with a quizzical expression, unused to hearing such a pretty straight response from a student here – many went out of their way to be over-nice to him. It was refreshing.
"Name's Logan. Whether or not you can do somethin' for me depends on what you know of the X-Men, and why exactly you came to Xavier's."
Angelo's fingers were working on autopilot, and he was mashing the fire
button with deadly accuracy as he spoke to Logan, never turning his head.
"Don't know nothin' about the X-Men. I can here because it was a safe place
to be."
"However, I take it you got a proposition for me." His face turned up into
a slight grin as the small ships exploded onscreen. "I'm listenin'."
"I do." He said, crossing his arms. "The X-Men are a group that operate out of the school. We were founded at the same time, by Xavier… We're basically here to help humanity work with mutants – and to oppose mutants who'd use their powers for murder or destruction. For mutants that give the rest of us a bad name. For the people mankind can't quite stand up against."
He watched the unchanging expression on the young man's face carefully. This one was hard.
"I read your file. You have experience and ability that could be valuable to the team, if you're interested. We're lookin' for some new trainees."
Angelo's eyes flickered from the gaming screen in surprise - just long
enough for one of the missiles to strike his ship - and he grimaced as the
game over music sounded. Turning his body to look at Logan, slipped his
hand into his pockets.
His mind raced. Train with the X-Men? Somehow he doubted shooting at
people with a .50 was quite what the gruff man had in mind when he talked
about experience. And besides, wasn't that sort of stuff what he'd left LA
to avoid?
Well... no, actually. This was different. He wouldn't be training to
defend some back alley in LA from some other gang. And besides, he'd never
had a chance to work at honing his abilities before...
Giving the taller man a nonchallant shrug, he turned back to the Galaga
machine and hit start. "Why not?"
