Where do we go, nobody knows...
I've gotta say, I'm on my way down.
God give me style, and give me grace,
God put a smile upon my face.
Down the hall from Loa in a different part of the mansion, where the student's dorms changed to single rooms for adult X-Men or trainees, Paige sat on her bed just as she had the last hour or so, hugging herself tightly and rocking a little now and then.
"Oh god..." she whispered, closing her eyes tight to hold back tears- only managing to rush more down her face. Her head bowed forward, blonde tendrils making a curtain around her. Shoulder shaking and breath held, Paige did everything she could to keep herself from being heard out in the hall. She'd locked the door to give her a moment to recover in case Jubilee came back, but to her great relief, her roomate had not come back this afternoon.
It had been too much, at the premiere. Bobby's hand holding hers, Warren looking so nice with Alison on his arm and that stabbing jealousy. She wanted someone too. Bobby had been there, so handsome, that smile she loved so much. It had been easy to pretend and she'd let things lapse a bit. Warren's expression when they'd run into each other outside. His blue eyes fixing her with disappointment. The guilt that ate into her as she returned to sit next to Bobby, pretending again, but this time, for his sake.
Where do we go to draw the line?
I've gotta say I wasted all your time...
Where do I go to fall from grace?
God put a smile upon your face.
Now this. Paige couldn't believe how her life was spinning out of control... she put a hand to her face, then covered her mouth as more sobs came like a tsunami of emotion, a wave too powerful to stop. She felt hysterical, close to breaking.
This was not how things were supposed to go. This was not what was supposed to happen. It was not what she's yearned for since she was 16 years old, wanting so badly to become an X-Man. She had prayed every Sunday at church, she had begged Mama endlessly for so long. "Please Mama, I'll make my own way. I'll pay to get out there. They've invited me. PLEASE Mama..."
Trying to calm herself down, Paige took a deep breath, looking around her. What was she going to do? What were her choices? How did things become so out of control? How was this fair? Why was she alone?
Now, when you work it out I'm worse than you.
Yeah, when you work it out, I wanted to.
Now, when you work out where to draw the line...
Your guess is as good as mine.
Standing, she moved to the bathroom, picking up the garbage bin and beginning to pick up her room. She threw away spare pieces of paper and leftover soda cans. Then it became anything she didn't want to see. When she tossed a picture frame containing a photo of her brother Sam- who would just about crap himself if he knew what was going on with his sister right now- Paige burst into tears again, and slid down the dresser to sit on the floor, resting her forehead against her knees.
Where do we go, nobody knows...
Don't ever say you're on your way down, when
God gave you style, and gave you grace~
And put a smile upon your face.
