Storm took the elevator to the first floor, and strode quickly to the kitchen, where she grabbed a cup of coffee and a bran muffin.
She walked back to her office with her breakfast, so preoccupied with thoughts of the cure that she didn't even remember she wasn't properly dressed.
She sat down at the gigantic desk and shut her eyes for a moment, remembering the last occupant of the spot.
When her eyes opened, she was ready for action.
Storm hit the buttons to turn her computer on, and while it was booting up she picked Forge's communicator out of her pocket and tapped it once.
"Forge."

“Forge here.”
The voice was crisp and clear, with hardly a trace of interference at all. It may have just been the distance they were at, but when Forge really threw his passion into a technology, it was cutting edge to a new level.
Earlier he had explained to Storm about the communicators, and her question about the tapping. They indeed had a few seconds for the person to say something after they tapped once before shutting off, incase they’d forgotten. That was the point of the double tap.

After a moment, the reply came through.
"Forge here."
This was exciting! The quality was surprisingly good. Storm put the badge close to her mouth (not sure if she needed to or not) and replied. "Hi Forge, testing. Where are you, what's the range on these?"

"I'm in the hangar, and really, don't worry about the range. They run off of clearance towers and satellites, I have them linked through the same network equipment most cell-phones use, as well as a direct feed throughway. If you can get a signal with a Cell-phone in both locations, then the range is unlimited. In areas with no cell-signals, you're looking at a range of a couple miles, maybe as many as three or four."
As an aftethought, he added:
"Don't worry about interception. Only person intercepting these babies would be using a mutant power specifically to do so. The encryption algorithms are the best I know.

Storm paused for a moment, seriously impressed. She got every word he was saying. A little smile crossed her face.
"These are amazing, Forge."
She continued brightly, the smile spreading. "Nothing else to say!"

"Well... uhhh..." She could easily hear his words were formed through a large grin as he spoke them. "Thanks! I'll keep it up. Hand em' out as you feel you should, I'm going to be working on the chopper. Just let me know when the meeting's going down."

Ahh, perhaps she shouldn't be encouraging his cockiness. But the communicators WERE brilliant. "Great, I will when we all get together."
"Does the PA system work as always, or would you like me to contact you when we need to get a meeting message out?"

"Definately works as per normal, I just have my own pre-programmed messages in there for emergencies. Or appearantly what I think are emergencies, which really aren't, and I end up looking like a goof."
Another pause.
"Just use it as normal."

Storm resisted the urge to laugh into the communicator, even though she was still a bit angry at him. Looking like a goof was right.
"Thanks Forge, see you soon."

[Continued to, and then back from, "Boiling Point"]
Storm took a seat at the desk again, trying to push her concern over Bobby from her mind. For a few minutes she worked at her computer, pulling up internet and database files on NovaTeX - history, recent press releases, maps.
Then everything shut down.
In a flash she was out of her seat and running towards the door. She pulled it open and darted into the elevator to check her students in the dormitories.

[Con't from Interior: "Searching for the Cause of the Blackout"]
Storm closed her door very deliberately and took a deep breath. She needed a clear head for what was coming; it was only the morning and already her day was threatening to overthrow her.
She strode over to her desk and sat down again.
A half an hour more of immersion in information - NovaTeX, maps, transportation times and details; the Sentinel program, recent articles on the possible plans of the Brotherhood; and a file of tactical brainstorms - and Storm leaned back in her chair. She ran a hand absentmindedly through her thick white hair and picked out a small knot.
She lifted the other hand and sent the files to the War Room systems.
Then she stood up and went to a speaker on the near wall. She took another deep breath, leaned down to the microphone and held down the button.
Your attention please - will all X-Men and Trainees please report to the War Room for a meeting in ten minutes. I repeat, X-Men to the War Room in ten minutes. Thank you.
Then Ororo straightened up, and left her office. She barely had time to freshen up before the real work would begin.

Another cool female voice rang out through the corridors, but this time it wansn't computer-generated - Kitty looked up at the speakers in the hallway through which she was passing as if to see Storm, whose voice it was echoing down the corridor.
(Of course, she wasn't there, but it made Kitty feel better.)
Kitty decided to spend her ten minutes (3:07) grabbing a Diet Dr. Pepper from the kitchen, (1:07) brushing her hair, (4:50), and finally (:56) getting to the War Room itself. She didn't actually time herself, but she knew, intrinsically, that she was perfectly on time. She wasn't surprised when she arrived at the War Room and knocked exactly ten minutes later - it was all in a day's work for Kitty Pryde, the Most Punctual Person On Earth.
"Hi," she said, entering a moment after her knock and sitting in the first available chair, smiling brightly at Storm. "What's going on?"

As Kitty sat down, the door opened again, and Bobby walked in. He was perpetually late to almost every class by at least a few minutes. But there were other things that he was always on time for. Meals being one of these things. And meetings where he'd be hearing plans were also on this list.
So being on time was one first. The second first was that his face held no trace of sadness or anger. Last time Ororo had seen him, a mere half an hour before, Bobby had been fuming. And the object of his anger was now sitting right there in the same room. Probably seemed like an uncomfortable situation brewing.
But Bobby breezed in, looking around. "Alright, I'm here!" he said as he moved toward the closest chair, which was next to Kitty. As he walked, he reached into his pocket and pulled something out. It was a small paper airplane, which he sent flying into Kitty's lap as he sat down. On one wing it said "READ ME!"
He then turned to Ororo with a pleasant smile, impatient for the plans. "So, are we going to Baltimore?"

Still a little damp, but at least wearing more than pyjama pants, Warren entered the War Room and took a seat. This whole business with Baltimore smacked of a trap to him, as he'd already said to Bobby, but that didn't mean that they shouldn't spring it anyway. He'd read enough... well, he'd been told about enough detective stories to know that by springing the trap you could find out who'd set it. Taking a seat on the tallest stool in the room, which allowed his wings space - holding them up off the ground was more than a little annoying, especially in long meetings - he looked around and saw who was already there and who was yet to come. The room was filling up quickly, but Warren didn't do anything more than smile at everyone and wait for them to begin. Though he'd only worked as an intern for his father, he'd sat in on board meetings - and discussions were best left until everyone was there to avoid repetition. And annoyance. (OOC: I'm at work, so I won't be around for a few hours, but figured I'd bang this out so Angel's here - you can start without me and I'll catch up
