Candice had to remind herself to breathe, and when she did, it was in spasmic gulps.
The gravity of the room seemed to multiply, pulling her down into her chair, where she slumped, reading the documentation over and over again...
Hannah Creed... Daughter of Gradon Creed, of all people... Phase Type C – that's what they called her. That's what these monsters, these bastard scientists, called her.
The documentation spelled it all out. Her whole history. The nature of her 'experiment', her sheltered life, her training in all things combat – particularly hand to hand fighting.
But she's just a girl... a sweet little girl....
The Administrator had to do all in her power to swallow the ball of pure hatred and anger that was boiling up in her throat, and for the first time in her life, she had to shut out the desire for the X-Men to storm a place and actually kill the people responsible for this travesty. There were other children there, too. Hannah wasn't the only one.
She stared at the letterhead. Sombra Corp. That was the company name. Sombra. Wasn't that Spanish for dark? Or Latin? She couldn't remember. Either way, if it meant dark, it was completely accurate.
She needed to notify Storm – immediately... no good, Storm was out of the building. She let out a curse, and did the first thing she knew was necessary to protect the information: She scanned it into the mainframe using her computer scanner, and made a soft and hard copy of the file. The hardcopy she kept on her person, the soft she hid behind the layers of protective security measures in the mainframe of the computer.
She put the original file in the safe behind the bookshelf, and when she closed it, laid back against it – eyes squeezed shut.
Hannah had been on an extensive series of medications to keep her sedated. She also had a fairly impressive series of mutant abilities. Her parents... still alive, but likely no good to her if Gradon knew she was a mutant.
Candice's head spun, and for a moment, she thought she was going to puke.
They needed to do something about the other children. They needed to free them somehow.
She considered simply calling the human authorities, then thought better of it. If Sombra was influential, and had both money and the legal parenthood of the children, then there was a high likelihood they'd simply get Hannah back – making matters worse.
No. This is truly a job for the X-Men.
