Kurt materialized in his office, sighing and dragging a hand across his eyes. It had not been a good week for piety. Lust, envy… he was well on his way to completing his list of deadly sins.
Meandering towards his desk, gathering up textbooks on the way that he still needed to read through, he let his mind wander. There was something rather expected about the way things had turned out at the mansion. With the plethora of mutant men who passed through the doors who looked perfectly normal (or mostly normal – Forge still looked human, even if his leg was metal), there was very little surprise for Kurt that he had been overlooked. More than likely, Ororo had never even considered the possibility. Apparently even she had trouble seeing past his skin.
Madelyne, however, was a surprise. So much of a surprise that Kurt honestly had little idea of what was happening. She is obviously interested in me, he thought, lifting a heavy tome of commentary, but for what purpose? She certainly didn’t seem to have the most chaste intentions – of that, Kurt could be certain – but her attentions were flattering regardless. Even Jimaine had taken years before she thought about such a thing, and Maddie had been more than ready at their second meeting.
Sitting down in his chair with an uncharacteristic lack of grace, Kurt grimaced as the edge of his tail scraped against the hole in the chair. I need to get that padded.
And there was more still to worry about, as well. Leaning forward to rest his elbows on his desk, Kurt considered the information from Mystique. If the information was false and the X-Men didn’t realize it, they could stumble into a trap, and they could ill afford another confrontation with the Brotherhood so soon after their last encounter. There had been enough bad press about them from Baltimore, and they didn’t need more.
If the information was real… then it meant that there was a good chance all of the information was real. Which meant that, since Kurt was fairly certain he hadn’t fathered any children lately, Hannah was a sister, a cousin, a niece… some sort of relation. Mystique hadn’t said what.
Which meant he was somehow tied to Sabretooth.
The Creed connection was too much to ignore when placed so clearly before him. He was no detective, but Sabretooth’s appearance so soon after Hannah’s presence…
Something bothered him, though. With the connection between the girl and the beast of a man revealed, it still didn’t explain Mystique’s interest in the girl. Kurt frowned and ran through the conversation in his head.
And his eyes went wide.
Scrambling for the recording of the call he’d picked up, he fast-forwarded and listened to the words in German closely.
"Kurt, do you know why I was at the school?"
And there was a pause.
"Do you know then why Victor Creed was at the school?"
Pieces started falling in place: her concern for Hannah; telling Kurt to watch over the little girl; contacting him specifically; throwing all these clues about his family in his path.
The blue skin. The yellow eyes.
He felt his mouth go dry.
