Logan was sticky, both from sweat and an inordinate amount of blood. A large portion of it was his, but an even larger portion belonged to other people. His shirt was ripped and dirty, and his jeans had a few holes torn in the legs. All in all, not one of his better days.
After making sure Maggott and Bishop were looked after, he strolled wearily into the next room in the Med-lab, it was sectioned off from the surgery section. He was going in there to hit the large-bin sink, planning to wash the blood off before he saw Rayen again… he didn’t expect her to still be in there, various machines hooked up all around her.
He slowed to a stop, realizing he must look horrible. She didn’t look very well herself, likely due to the emotional and psychological damage her condition must have had on her.
He offered her a smile, genuine and glad to see her, even given the situation. “Hey babe.”
Her eyes opened wide, slowly. The smile on his face was the only temper to panic- and the contrast actually made her laugh.
“Oh my god,” she smiled, then looked worried. “What in the hell happened?”
He chuckled and walked over the sink. “Sabertooth happened. Old enemy of ours… he’s the one that, well, got Lorna’s body.” Hopefully that didn’t seem to callous. “Damn guys a monster. Incredibly strong, like Colossus – hard to kill, fast, vicious… Lucky the other guys weren’t killed.”
He ran the water, stripping off what was left of his shirt and tossing it in the trash. He did his best to wash the blood off of him with a wash rag, but he was really going to need a shower. “We got him, though, in the end. He almost killed that kid Maggott, nearly took Bishop and I with him, but we got him. Your brother’s calling the police now.”
Just let me talk to him Lorna, please?
Not a problem Rayen. I’m sorry for all of this.
“I’m glad everyone’s okay… except, Lorna, of course.” She stumbled a little.
“Bandero thinks he can find the frequency, maybe… work something out. Some way for her to survive.” She was watching Logan with an odd expression. Relieved he was okay, in shock at the bizarre nature of the situation, badly needing his arms around her.
But not until he showered.
Logan wiped as much as he could down, tossing the rag in the trash next to his shirt. He sighed, looking over at her, wanting to be next to her and hold her… but realizing it was probably a shoddy idea, given all the blood.
Then he remembered there was a sanitization shower here in the med lab. It stood behind another sliding door to the far side, used for patients who couldn’t leave the lab, but could shower or bath. Perfect.
“Really?” He asked, unsure what to think about the Lorna situation. The prospect of getting her out of Rayen as soon as possible was a delightful one, however. “Good. If anybody could do it, it’s that geek you call a brother.”
He pulled a pair of pajamas out of the cabinet, thankful they had more than hospital gowns.
“I’m gonna hit the shower, come with. You don’t have to get into the shower, but I’d like to keep talking… just stand outside the curtain and promise not to look.” He said the last part with a sly grin.
Rayen laughed. So did Lorna.
Detaching herself from a few machines, she pulled a chair after and sat on the other side of the shower curtain.
“I guess I should ask the hard question though… is this going to change things for us?”
Logan was decent enough to step into the shower before dumping his bloody jeans out onto the floor. He wasn’t shy around Rayen, but was unsure how much Lorna was going to see… which made him think of her question.
He turned the water on very hot, and let it run over his hair before answering.
“It’s going to change how we do things, I suppose, but it doesn’t change what we plan on doing. If that makes any sense…I don’t plan on letting it come between us, or stopping me from seeing you, kissing, you and continuously trying to get in your pants.” He chuckled. “But I can see how we may encounter a few obstacles.”
With an effort, he addressed the other. It was still difficult to think of two women in one body, but with effort it became easier.
“Lorna… can you give us privacy? Not right now, I mean, but in general?”
It was hard for Rayen to keep a straight face. Both of them found it amusing, if a bit horrifying.
Lorna answered, her digitized voice echoing into the sterile room. “I’m not sure. I haven’t tried to pull my senses away or… shut my… eyes?” Rayen’s eyes shut.
“No Lorna, those are mine.” Rayen sounded a little disturbed for a second, almost murmuring it rather than speaking.
Sorry.
It was Lorna’s voice when she spoke again. “But we could certainly try. It would be… frightening. But not at all unlike sleeping I suppose?”
“Or maybe you should just get to know me better.”
Rayen was stunned, her heart pounding hard suddenly. Completely horrified by the idea of being jealous of someone inside her own head, she sat there in silence, blood draining from her face.
How dare you.
I’m trying to help….
Wow. Logan found that a bit… forward. Even for him. He couldn’t help but smile, knowing he was protected from vision by the shower curtain. The thought of trying to make out with Rayen while Lorna was watching was a bit creepy… but still, it was funny for her to suggest that.
“Sorry, Lorna – probably not at a point in our relationship where I think that’s an option.” He quipped, immediately regretting it. “That was a joke.” He added, just to be sure.
“Seriously, though… if you can’t close your eyes, then we’ll need to come up with something. Or we can just wait until Forge comes up with some fancy new technology to get you out of there.” Though to were, he didn’t address. “I just think it’s something we’ll have to deal with as we come to it.”
“We’ll figure it out.” Rayen this time, having caught her breath.
“So did you kill him? Or is he just being held.” Either way it was amazing. She was half glad she wasn’t there to see it, half sad(and maybe that was Lorna’s half) she wasn’t there to help in the ass kicking.
“Hey Logan… what did you guys do with Lorna’s body?”
He finished washing the blood out of his hair and off his body, and felt immensely better. The warm water did wonders to take the knots out of his muscles that his healing factor didn’t work to well on.
“Yeah, we killed him. I shoved a claw through his eye, and stabbed him in the heart a few times for good measure.” He said, nonplussed. “We decided to leave his body out there with Lorna’s, until the police arrive. They’ll want the scene untouched.”
He half opened the curtain, revealing a large portion of himself, but nothing you couldn’t see on regular network TV. “Hand me a towel?”
Leaning over to the rack, she pulled it off, and did her best not to stare too much. My god he had such a nice body. She smirked a bit, and turned her head away.
“I suppose someone’s checked the students, to make sure they’re okay?”
He took the towel, giving her a small smile, and dried off behind the curtain. “Yeah, I heard Pete had the little kids, and I know Candice has put everyone to their rooms. I’ll get her to double check, but handling the kids is all Storm’s job.”
Not that Logan didn’t like the children, it just wasn’t his favorite part about being at the Institute. He hoped that with the number of adults running around doing nothing about Sabertooth and the murder, that someone would have a handle on the situation.
He stepped out of the shower, holding the towel in a fist in front of his private parts while he reached down to grab the pajamas. Back behind the curtain, he slipped the pants on.
Rayen sat quietly, thinking about her situation. It was all a jumble of emotions, most of which made very little sense or couldn’t easily be reconciled with the hard facts of the moment. Rather dumbly, she babbled.
“Um.. .are you hungry? I haven’t eaten most of the day. We could run into the kitchen…”
He got out, slipping the top on that came with PJ’s. The X-insignia was on both, and they were black, but he still felt a little silly in the things. More silly than in full body leather? Good point.
“Food sounds like a fantastic idea.” He said, and pulled her to her feet.
“But first…” He slid his arms around her, pulling her close. It felt good to embrace her again, particularly with the stress of the night, and he knew she needed it. He couldn’t even imagine what she was going through.
He didn’t kiss her, but he did hold her as tightly as he could, letting her face rest on his chest and shoulder.
Rayen gulped a breath in, and clung to him, taking a level of comfort from his embrace she could not explain. Even Lorna whimpered a bit inside Rayen’s mind, both of them exhausted from a day neither of them could have considered in their worst nightmares.
“Oh… thank you.” It was likely the most emotional moment they’d exchanged, and here she had to share it with another woman.
Oh well. It was better than nothing at all.
