A delicious smell permeated the apartment as Maddie played with frypans and plates and utensils. She wasn't the greatest cook in the world, rarely having a reason to do it for herself. But there was one thing that Maddie knew how to do, and she knew how to do it well.
Pancakes.
Yes, Maddie's greatest talent in the kitchen was pancakes.
She'd woken up before Kyle - which was usually the way of it - and a respectable stack was forming on each of the plates in front of her. She hummed as she worked, the same song that was playing on the television, gathering up the things they'd need without using any hands.
Feeling a mind awakening in the bedroom, Maddie smiled to herself and finished up, the kitchen seemingly cleaning itself up so that the lingering smell was the only sign that anything had been happening there. The plates moved over to the table, followed by cutlery and butter and syrup, and she wandered over to the door to greet Kyle with a smile.
"Morning." She was dressed in only the silk dressing gown, as was customary before she got dressed for work.
"I hope you like pancakes." There was that smile again, the half smirk tinged with a large dose of amusement - even though there wasn't anything particularly amusing about the sentence. Not on the face of it, at any rate.

The delicious aroma of pancakes washed over him, drawing Kyle Kennedy from his sleep. He rubbed at his eyes, and a grin broke out across his face.
What a freak-fest, last night.
Wow. Who knew Maddy had such an impressive repertoire or skills and abilities – and that wasn’t even including the amazing telekinetic ones, which they’d experimented with last night too, of course. The woman couldn’t even be close to being described as ‘human’.
He stumbled up to her in his boxers, yawning widely. He was careful not to breathe morning breath all over her, and kissed her lips in a warm fashion. It wasn’t quite loving, which would be a bizarre gesture from the bastion of cool control, but it was warm none the less.
“mornin’” he said, and smiled. “Of course I love pancakes – who doesn’t? I’m a pancake eating machine, baby.”
He chuckled too, and headed into the bathroom, drawing his ‘bachelor survival kit’ from his slacks pockets (which he’d picked up from the floor of the bedroom). He quickly brushed his teeth using the small toothbrush and tooth paste.
When he came out again, his stomach was growling fiercely.
“Hot damn this looks delicious. I didn’t know you were a cook!”

"Afraid this is about the range of my cooking talent, but what I do... I do well." She gave him another grin - she'd caught the thought about her skills elsewhere, and she was pleased by it. Not least of all because she'd been able to open up fully, not having to hide what her telekinesis could bring to the party.
She took a seat, reaching out for the jug to pour liberal amounts of syrup over her own stack. Crossing her legs, red painted toenails clicking as they connected with the table on the way past, Madelyne fixed Kyle with an interested look. She hadn't been expecting the kiss. But then, he'd been a little unexpected himself last night.
"So what's the plan for today? Does Guardian have to cater to his adoring masses?" Once again, she found herself thinking about the suit. The whole job. She wouldn't put her face on television, at least not as a mutant. Madelyne was bound to find herself on the show at least once - hopefully it wouldn't bring a carful of crazies down to see her again. She shook her head and turned her attention back to the pancakes.
Mmmm, this is good.

“I could use another day in, just like this one,” he said, “but I suppose I should go and see what the world has to offer. Maybe hit up my first patrol this evening. The suit has a pretty impressive built in police radio scanner.”
He took a bite of the food, and couldn’t hide his delight – internally or externally – at the flavor. They really were remarkably good, even if he didn’t use the liberal ocean of syrup she had, preferring more buttery pancakeyness.
“I said Goddam!” he said with a chuckle. “Some good ass pancakes.”
He ate in silence for a few moments, the space between them comfortable despite all that had happened. They may be a lot of things, or nothing, possibly, to each other – but they were very similar in nature. That was enough to keep them comfortable, even pleasantly amused, for quite a long time.
Finally, he said: “You want one, don’t you?”

"The suit?" She raised her eyebrows over her fork, taking the bite and chewing as she thought about the question. Maddie hadn't realised that she'd been so obvious about it - even if he did have hidden telepathic abilities, her mental cloak would have protected her from rummaging that she didn't allow.
"Well, it is very cool." With a grin, she shook her head.
"But no, I wouldn't want one just like yours - far too much covered." Maddie smiled and took another mouthful. There was a lot to consider about being an internationally recognisable superhero type. Not that Maddie was worried about losing her job, but there were plenty of dangers to having your face out there for all the villains to see. She'd much rather work in the shadows behind Kyle, helping him, than put herself out there as a secondary target. But then, she was very much into self-preservation, and had been all her life.
"I'd need a mask, too... Something sexy."

Kyle really wasn’t a telepath, not in the powerful sense anyway, just a salesman of the highest order. He had mastery over the art of subtle human communications, reading people, and understanding them. It verged on psychic, but was really just raw human talent.
He grinned when she said she thought his outfit was far too covered. Of course she’d want something with more… exposure.
“Well that puts us at an odd angle. If we’re going to do it, we’d have to make it where I don’t ‘know’ you – after all, Guardian is all about being out with your private self. It’s what makes him acceptable to the public; he’s not a shadowy figure like the X-Men. He’s Kyle Kennedy, and he’s got an address and phone number like everyone else.”
He looked at her, taking another bite and swallowing it before resuming.
“You’d need to be the sexy masked woman who saves his ass or something, giving him a reason not to condemn her for wearing a mask. I suppose I don’t have to worry much about getting sniped, but you may – I can see why you’d not want your face out there on the news.”
He paused for a moment, considering the viable options. It was a difficult situation. She had the firepower to make a great backup, could help him on numerous occasions, but wanted her anonymity… difficult indeed.

Shrugging, Maddie took another mouthful of her pancakes and chewed thoughtfully.
That little bubble around him had fascinated her last night, and it still fascinated her. He was telekinetic, like her, but his was a very different kind of talent - almost subconcious. If someone shot at him, it'd bounce off his little bubble without any problems. If someone shot at her - well, if she knew about it, she could stop the bullet, or ash it, but if they surprised her... Her telekinesis could do funny things when it was working from instinct alone.
"There are very few people who even know about me being a mutant, Kyle. My parents, my uncle, one or two old friends and now you and the crazies that came here yesterday." She had another mouthful, almost finishing the plate.
"Just because I have powers doesn't mean I need to use them publicly." Madelyne shrugged. "I could just be your quiet backup, no-one would ever have to know."
Still, she did like the idea of a suit.

For a brief moment, Kyle looked saddened, though even if he felt so, it was gone after barely surfacing.
"hmm... well, the idea of you as my out partner would be preferable... however, if I had to chose no help, and your help in the shadow, I think I'd chose the latter. You seem to have an impressive power, and I have a feeling that as I keep making mutant enemies, I'll need the backup." He grinned. "Besides, we need to get you that skimpy suit anyway, why put it to waste?"
He finished off his pancakes, making a very satisfied noise as he did so, and took a giant gulp of his milk, wiping away the moustache.
"In fact, I think I like that arrangement better. Guardian needs the spotlight, at least for now. we can worry about complications to the charecter later."

"That's probably a good idea for now." Madelyne shrugged. "You don't want the women thinking they have no chance, either." Just because they'd slept together once didn't mean that Maddie considered them 'together' or anything like that.
"If Guardian has a scantily clad female sidekick..." She flashed another half smile and finished off her pancakes. The plate took itself to the sink.
"Well, I'm going to have a shower. I'm sure you can occupy yourself for a while." Maddie didn't really care if he left or not - his apartment was in the same building, after all.
Shrugging out of her robe as she went, Maddie wandered back into the bedroom and through to the ensuite. Entering the room made her frown in suspicion. She'd been annoyed enough that she hadn't stopped to wonder exactly what Logan had been doing in her bathroom, since he certainly wasn't throwing up. No way to know now, though, she just hoped that she wouldn't have to deal with them again.
As the water ran over her, she tried not to think on it. All it would do was make her annoyed, and that wouldn't be good for anyone. Soon enough she was finished, and she dried herself off the way that she usually did - telekinetically.
Pulling on a skirt and shirt, Maddie returned to the other room to see that Kyle had left. There were probably all sorts of meetings and plans for him to be involved with today - she wondered what that would leave her doing.
[End scene]
