Standing on the balcony, breathing in the air - which could be described as quite a dangerous thing to do, thanks to the pollution levels in big cities - Madelyne wore an expression that could only be described as rapture.
She had missed the city so much in her recent absence, the year or so she'd spent working her way into different companies and eventually into the Guardian project. As much as she had enjoyed the challenge of getting there, she had been finding herself bored with what she was doing now that she was there.
It was all fun and games for Kyle, sure. He was out right now doing the police's job for them, and while he certainly seemed to be making himself into a bit of a media darling, the law enforcement agencies weren't so appreciative.
But now she was back in New York, which was so much more interesting than Washington, and she could get back to the kind of things that actually kept her entertained while managing to keep her job. The money wasn't what was important - it was the appearance of normality that mattered to Madelyne.
That, and she did enjoy the after-hours perks of her work.
She hadn't been able to find them apartments yet, and was in fact waiting on a real estate agent to come and pick her up to show her to a few that might be suitable. Half an hour left, a quick glance at her watch told her.
Maddie didn't mind. She could wait.
She was home.

Guardian had been having a very busy day. He'd been bouncing between two cities all morning when he was stuck fighting those mutant bastards in the Armored Car job.
It took him an hour to bust out of the stone casket he'd been put in, too. Fortunately he managed to lock some air into his forcefield, extending it's range to the full four inches around him before the rock slammed into him and buried him. Still, by the time he got out, he busted through the street rubble to face down a handful of cops – and he was nearly asphyxiated. It was a horrible panicky feeling, and he'd hoped to never feel it again.
Fortunately the installed surveillance cameras in the armored car told the story of what had happened, and Guardian was let off for trying to stop the robbers rather than trying to rob the car. Still, they said the DA would contact him for interference that would probably cost the city hundreds of thousands of dollars in street repair.
So when he landed on Maddie's balcony, he looked more than slightly angry. He was still in full gear, and there wasn't a smudge of dirt on him, but he'd looked like he'd been sweating profusely.
“You won't BELIEVE the morning I've had.” He said, though the news would be airing this latest piece of juicy information soon. He'd have to make a press statement soon as well.

"I'm sure I will."
Madelyne cocked her head to one side to examine Kyle carefully.
"What happened? You're sweating like a pig."
She reached up to run a fingernail down his tk-field, slightly disappointed that she couldn't make the noise that a fingernail on his suit normally did.
"You should get that off, in case sweat does any damage."
It was said with a suggestive smile, though her mind was actually concentrating on something completely different.
The damage was probably already done, by the looks of him. Maybe they needed to get some kind of signalling device for if he ever did get himself into a situation where he'd want her help.
Not that she'd necessarily help him - there was something about the idea that she found a little off-putting. Even though Maddie quite enjoyed dominance.
"Anyway, tell me about your afternoon. Do you want a coffee or something?"
God, she was so bad at being a pseudo-housewife.

Guardian did indeed take it off, for even though it was incredibly comfortable, he didn't want it to get stinky. It wasn't exactly the easiest thing to wash. So he started peeling it off, completely unabashed for his display of nudity (though he had a pair of tighty whiteys on underneath it.)
“Well, believe it or not, I fought a mutant out there today... two of em', actually. They were hittin' an armored car. Some dude who was like an Earth master or something – kept calling up giant walls of rock, and columns of dirt to jump around on. His girlfriend had this web-like rope, tied me up in it. It was harder than steel, but more flexible than silk... crazy.”
He noticed he was rambling, and clamped his mouth shut. He drew the spare pair of PJ pants he'd left in a small duffle back in her apartment (for such occasions, actually) and pulled them on.
“I'm really sorry to come bashing in here like this. Thank you for being hospitable. You got a cold beer?”
It was really cute, actually, seeing her try to act the house-wife-esque role. It definitely didn't suit her, but he found it very endearing none the less.
He still couldn't shake how bored she looked... she REALLY needed to get out more.

"Yeah, sure." Maddie wandered over to the fridge and actually pulled a beer out by hand. It was obvious that she was putting an effort into living the life that she was supposed to be living.
"Anyway, what else am I supposed to do with my time?" It was her job to do what he needed done - she couldn't go out to a club while she was on shift, could she.
"I'm not surprised you've finally come across another mutant. Actually, if anything, I'm surprised it hasn't happened before now." What are the cops supposed to do against mutants? That Kyle was doing their job for them spoke volumes. They had that new SHIELD thing, sure, but as far as she could tell that was just humans with technology. Surely they should employ some mutants to help - that would keep them from having to declare their stance against vigilantism every couple of weeks, too.
"Anyway, I've got a real estate agent coming in a few minutes, so that I can find you apartment. Make yourself at home, I'll be back once we're done."
As if it was choreographed - and it was, in a way, since Maddie had heard the woman's thoughts outside the door - there was a knocking sound.
"See you later, Kyle."
[End scene]
