"Yes, good boy, you're a good puppy." The young Australian picked up the little skeletal dog, who had disappeared from her room to run around the base and apparently come back with a stick for her to throw, dropping it at her feet and 'yapping' up at her with his silent barks and a rapidly wagging tail.
"Not in here though, Mr. Bones, we'll have to go play out on the beach." Pushing the stick into the pocket of her jeans, Angie hefted the zombie puppy up onto her shoulder, scratching his spine with her fingernails as she headed down the hallway towards the exit.
It was a surreal feeling, how much she enjoyed the company of the dead canine. Mr. Bones was far too cute for her to remember his status as one of the deceased most of the time, but every now and again it would just hit her, and Angie's smile would fade and she'd remind herself that life in this world was like that sometimes. Life in the world of mutants.
"I thought it was a guy who controlled the zombies."
The voice startled Angie out of her scratching, and she held Mr. Bones to her tight as she looked the newcomer up and down. The tattooed woman was frowning, one hand ruffling her hair. Angie had thought that she'd met all of the new recruits - Dom, Roy and Lucas, but apparently not.
"No, it is... I'm Angie. This is Mr. Bones, Dead Man... I'm looking after him for Dead Man." She looked a little confused, but held her hand out to shake anyway, figuring that confusion was no reason to be rude. She'd started out well with everyone else, after all.
"Recluse," the dark-haired woman said, reaching out to take Angie's hand.
The young blonde actually gasped at the contact, feeling the other woman's scratches and bruises like a physical blow, and Recluse snatched her hand back immediately, frowning.
"The fuck is your problem?" Baring teeth to show two wickedly sharp little fangs protruding from behind her second teeth, the threat that she presented was obvious, and the little healer immediately started trying to explain, her left hand still holding the skeleton-dog to her chest almost protectively. Mr. Bones was vibrating in her arms - she thought he might actually be growling, but it was hard to tell since he couldn't really make facial expressions anymore.
"I... I'm sorry, I'm a healer. Through skin contact... Please, I'd like to help."
The defensive look disappeared, replaced with understanding, but as Recluse reached out tentatively there was a warning in her eyes.
Angie wasn't even going to ask. If she didn't ask, Recluse didn't have to tell, and then she didn't have to think about just what the older woman got up to in her spare time.
"Uh... yeah. Nice to meet you, Recluse." The young blonde took her hand back gently and went back to scratching Mr. Bones. "If you need a tour or something, come find me... I'm in the next hallway down." She really needed to mark her room or something. Maybe put a red cross sticker on it so they could always find her if they needed healing.
"Yeah, nice to meet you too." With that, the two women went their seperate ways, the young Australian looking back once with a curious look before she continued on her way out to the beach.
"Alright, Mr. Bones, we're almost there. Then we can play fetch. Maybe I can get Aurora to bring you back a frisbee or a tennis ball or something, would you like that?" Letting him down, Angie watched amusement as he ran before her excitedly, jumping up and down at the prospect of playing.
"Yeah, that sounds like fun to me, too."
