Name: Carter Burke
Codename(s): None.
Affiliation: None.
Age: 21
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 189lbs
Hair Color: Blonde
Eye Color: Green
Appearance:
Carter is a thickly built man, though not inherently strong because of it. He has kept in shape, but mostly through not being able to afford a large amount of food. He keeps his hair cropped short and has a short reddish-blonde beard as well.
Personality:
Carter would seem like a paranoid schizophrenic to someone who did not understand the extent of his powers. He is often seen talking to himself, mumbling under his breath and becoming overly excited for seemingly no reason.
Carter has taken on the worst aspects of his duplicates’ traits, hating the majority of the world and believing that much is owed to him that he has not received.
Powers and Abilities:
Carter has the ability to create seven duplicates of himself, each the embodiment of the Seven Deadly Sins. He can create these at will, but they also create themselves in times of great stress. Normally, Carter can reabsorb his duplicates as easily as making them. During times of duress, Carter is unable to reabsorb the duplicates until he calms down.
The duplicates, when killed, can be reabsorbed and recreated at Carter’s whim. It is unknown if the duplicates can survive if the original Carter is killed.
These duplicates, unfortunately, are extremely difficult to control. Even while within him, he can hear their voices, and they try to bend him to their will. While they have a mental block that does not allow them to leave his roughly immediate presence, they are apt to do whatever pleases them.
Wrath: The most dangerous of the group, Wrath has murdered fourteen people so far, doing most of the killing for Carter and the others. He revels in blood and gore and delights in violence of all kinds. He has a hair-trigger temper. He lies to himself about his violence, believing that his hatred of others is justifiable and he is not committing murder, but rather vengeance. Filled with "love of justice perverted to revenge and spite".
Lust: After Wrath, Lust is the worst of the group. A serial rapist, Lust prefers to use psychological warfare on his enemies, both men and women. He desires excitement and pleasure at all times.
Gluttony: Gluttony overindulges himself in all things, not simply food or drink. He is a drug addict and alcoholic, and sometimes becomes as violent as Wrath.
Envy: Envy often finds himself possessing Carter’s attention more than the others. Envy is similar to Greed except that instead of money, Envy desires the love and respect of others. Because Carter finds himself sympathizing with Envy’s goals most, Envy therefore holds the greatest sway over Carter’s goals. Filled with a "love of one's own good perverted to a desire to deprive other men of theirs."
Greed: Greed solely concerns himself with the acquisition of money. He is undoubtedly the most clever of the group, his analytical mind leading him in all ways towards monetary gains. He manipulates the other duplicates to help him, and uses trickery and deceit to fool Carter and the duplicates. Is most likely to betray the others for his own goals.
Pride: Pride is a vain and somewhat carefree duplicate, though he takes great care in his appearance and holds it in the highest regard. Pride sees no good in others, and believes he is the best there can possibly be in all regards.
Sloth: Clearly the least threatening of the group, Sloth is characterized by a general apathy towards life. He will commit violence, however, he simply won’t care about it.
Weaknesses:
Carter can only create seven duplicates at any time, and not more than one of each.
Carter and his duplicates are human in every other way. They have no unnatural strength or agility, and rely solely on their numbers to overpower opponents.
The duplicates often bicker amongst themselves, and feel obligated to sway Carter to their way of thinking. This is distracting to both the duplicates and Carter, and can easily be exploited.
Due to the duplicates differing goals and beliefs, they could easily be led to betray one another.
History:
Carter Burke was born as the sixth child to a poor family in Brooklyn, New York. His father was a policeman and his mother was a teacher, and they scraped by on the money they had. Living in a loud, unclean tenement, the family was as happy as they could be with the life they were living.
The first tragedy came when Carter’s mother, oldest brother, and younger sister (the seventh child born) all died in a taxi accident. Though it took a long time, the family finally healed from the event, and the remaining siblings and their father moved on with their lives.
Two years later, Carter’s second oldest brother overdosed on heroine in an abandoned building in Harlem.
A year after that, his other sister drowned while swimming at Coney Island. She was caught in the undertow, and when Carter tried to rescue her, he almost died as well, being pulled from the water by his father and remaining brother.
The three men somehow struggled on. While all three had jobs – Carter’s brother joined the NYPD with his father – and the remaining family now had all the money they needed so desperately before, life was slow and dark for them.
On September 11th, 2002, Carter lost his father and brother when the second tower collapsed with them inside. Carter watched the collapse on television in the break room of the factory he worked at. Carter was eighteen at the time. And that’s when the voices began to speak to him.
The voices told Carter terrible things. They told him to kill, to rape, to steal, to indulge, to hate, to lie, to cheat. Carter tried to remain on the path his parents had taught him. He tried to be a good person.
On Carter’s nineteenth birthday, a mugger stopped him in a parking lot. The mugger pulled a knife, and suddenly, seven young men came to Carter’s aid. Astonishingly, they appeared to be twins of his, sounding and looking just like him. He soon realized, however, that these were bodies given to the voices in his head. The voices were made real.
The mugger tried to run, but the newly born Wrath would have none of it. He tackled the mugger to the ground, and while Envy and Sloth held his arms, Wrath and Lust beat the man viciously. All the while, Pride stood by Carter, comforting him and telling him how they were the only ones who understood, and how this ugly, stupid man deserved everything they gave him. Wrath finally plunged his thumbs into the man’s eyes, killing him.
In the years since, Carter has learned to bring out his duplicates, or “brothers” as they refer to one another, in times of need, though they still appear without his bidding in times of great duress. His control of their physical presence has not tempered his lack of control in his mind, as they constantly interject “advice” on how he should live his life.
Sample post:
Carter sat in the black, sagging chair in front of the airline gate. Flight 57 from London to NYC was departing in fifteen minutes, or at least that’s what they kept saying up at the desk. As usual, the plane was late in boarding.
It’s all her fault! Wrath exclaimed from within Carter’s head. Carter looked up at the young and pretty worker behind the desk. That filthy whore is delaying the plane on purpose. She doesn’t think you’re important enough. She needs to be taught a lesson.
“Be quiet,” Carter said aloud. “There’s other people on the plane, she’s not holding it up because of me.”
Maybe she is though, added Lust. Maybe she’s waiting for you, trying to get into your pants. We should show her how we treat girls like her.
Of course that’s what she’s doing, said Pride. She can’t resist us, I mean, gimme a break! Look at us!
“Shuttup, guys, just shuttup,” said Carter. A little girl on his right gave him an uncomfortable look, then turned back to her Gameboy.
What are you looking at, you little bitch? asked Wrath.
Take the Gameboy! Take it! cried Greed. I always wanted a Gameboy!
Stay calm, everyone, said Envy. We can get the Gameboy later, when she’s asleep on the flight. We deserve it so much more anyways. The spoiled little girl prolly never will have to work a day in her life.
Prolly shits diamonds, mumbled Gluttony. Does anyone know what they’re serving on the flight?
Who cares? said Sloth. I’m sure it’s disgusting.
“You’re prolly right about that,” Carter sighed.

RP Experience: Maggott, Loa, and Sabretooth on here, and a bunch a crunch of characters at Other Worlds
Note: Carter Burke and his duplicates are disturbing, I know. I would like to tell everyone that the views of his insane dupes are not my own in any way, and although the things they say can be incendiary, I hope I don’t offend anyone. I am surprisingly well adjusted in real life, I swear!
